You are given enormous choices straightaway and all of those choices in where you go and what you do first seamlessly integrate into the local sub quests and side missions to create a broader narrative.

It's presentation. The gameplay and a lot of the story aren't the best. The writing has it's moments, especially in the DLC, but the main quest is laughable at times with some good moments spread inbetween tedious busywork. I think the thing that blows so many people away about it is how polished it is in relation to it's size and amount of content, even if most of it is the same thing over and over again with fun characters and dialogue to get you through most of it.

I don't get why people love it's open world so much when it's literally the same as every other cookie-cutter Ubisoft open world game to come out for the last 5 years at least, the only difference being you look at bounty boards to reveal points of interest on your map rather than climbing towers.

All of the side stuff that seems like it should just be padding is actually the meat of the game. The sidequests like the lighthouse or the Blood Baron's stuff, fucken incredible.

It was entertaining that everyone in the game seemed to hate Velen but I loved every second of it. The winds blowing, sudden storms approaching. Chatting, superstitious townfolk.

I do agree that the combat is merely okay and could be more. I don't care for the control scheme either as signs feel like shit to use and switch.

Still, you've got to be a cynical bastard not to think this game is something special at least.

Got this game awhile ago and just got to Skillege and I've been liking it allot, it's fun. The entire game was SJW for me , something I didn't sense when I played the first two games.

It didn't feel like those games, it felt more like any Assassins Creed game. Especially when your in Novigrad. You and your companions just this group of ultra progressive current year misfits and you're fighting this conservative evil regressive hypocritical setting, and religion.

Good writing. Actually competent pre-done animations for dialogue. Soundtrack and atmosphere. ALL of the DLC was pretty great.

Overall, not much wrong with the game. Combat system isn't perfect, but it's competent enough that I never got tired of it.
