I can answer almost all those questions in one image!

I also really wanna play through Radiant Historia, but fitting it into my schedule's difficult bc I really wanna focus on it. What about you OP?

I'm in the same boat as you, but isn't it a terribly sad essay on the JRPG industry that the most anticipated games are... two remakes? JRPGs are dead.

DQ used to be my favorite and go-to series, but I'm quickly losing interest in it now and I've started to play MegaTen games. Megami Tensei II and Nocturne specifically have been really fun to play so far.
Can't wait to see what the SMT HD project looks like.
>>
>>387384686
Eh, I play them sparingly enough that I have a decent backlog built up. Especially if we're counting tactical jrpgs.

I kind of enjoy that they come out sparingly enough that those that do come out many times venture to do something different, too (speaking in the timespan of the last decade or so)

Any other games that have similiar mechanics to Paper Mario like the badge system and having to fight well to show a good show to an audience for every battle?

SMT is definitely a great series, I wouldn't feel bad. I beat my first SMawhile back, SMTIV, and have been hooked on the series since.

Have you actually played the famicom games? If so you have some balls. I remember a few years ago I actually tried getting into the series with SMTI on snes, it didn't end well.

I really want to try to get into jrpgs. my previous attempts to play ended up with me liking the game but stop playing it and never pick it back up. What are some good jrpgs to get me into the genre?

SMT I is my favorite from the series, very atmospheric game. Strong sense of foreboding and general gloom throughout the entirety of your journey.

>what are your favorites
Too many of the games that I would class as JRPGs are apparently not JRPGs. Thus while I have many games that could fit this I cannot answer properly.
>what have you played most recently
I was thinking about replaying Shining games in chronological order (Shining in the Darkness timeline, so starting with Shining Force). Last I can't remember if it was DQIX or Ever Oasis.
>what are you looking forward to
EOV, SJR, USUM, Alliance Alive
>what are your favorite jrpg monsters
The robotic enemies from the original Shining Force, such as the Torch Eye, Laser Eye, Steel Claw, Jet, etc. Was so odd finding that for the first time while expecting a typical medieval fantasy. I also love the FOEs in EO2U's 5th Stratum.

Finished SMT IV Apocalypse. Finishing up TitS SC.

>what are you looking forward to
Ys VIII, DQXI, Deep Strange Journey, Etrian Odyssey V, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. Probably missing some.

Pic-related.
>>
The news about DQXI coming over here made me want to break out VIII and play through again to bide my time.
>>

I was liking it but I was just confused as to what the fuck I was doing while I was playing. In recent years though I got a super everdrive so I plan to return to SMTI as well as try SMTII, playing them on a actual tv. Hopefully If... comes eventually.

Maybe try Chrono Trigger. It's a excellent game and is quite short at around only 20 hours. Years ago a enhanced port was released for the ds, play that version.

Reminder that Growlanser 4 is the greatest JRPG ever and to play it even if you absolutely loath the artstyle

What are some good co-op jrpgs? ideally couch co-op, but anything works desu, there aren't enough of those out there imo

Not him but it's not anything great, just typical anime art. I guess if anything it appears a bit more influenced by 90's anime then more modern styles.

Persona 5 and Dragon Quest XI aren't remakes. What are you talking about?
>>
>>387385806
Do you have any tips for the endgame? It gets really hard, like the mission with the changing floors and guardians, and the map where the angel runs away. And missions where enemies spam magic at you.

And I still haven't beaten the final boss.
>>
>>387384686
>two remakes

Radiant Historia is rather niche and JS isn't nearly as popular as Purse Owner.

Dragon Quest XI and Aegis 13. And Dragon Quest X, as if.

>what are your favorite jrpg monsters
The ones in Dragon Quest because they have personality. Mana second.
>>
>>387386008
The only thing that comes to mind are the seiken densetsu games on snes. Secret of Evermore has a two player mod as well. There is also pokemon but that is more about facing each other.

Interestingly there are quite a few snes jrpgs that are "two player" where if two controllers are plugged in the game will take turns taking commands from the player. I believe Earthbound and Final Fantasy VI both do this actually.
>>

Tales games have co-op. I recommend Vesperia.

Atlas knows this, Alex is literally only there for waifufags.

I'm a gigantic SJfag, probably my favorite video game even, but redux worries me. I'll buy the collector's edition and play through it but I really don't know if this will be the difinitive version. I worry Alex will be forced and not optional and I can't say I'm a fan of the new demons from Doi.
>>
>>387386008
I think some of the Etrian Odyssey games have a feature where you can team up with other players during certain battles. Probably not what you're looking for though.

>Have you actually played the famicom games?
Nah, I've been playing the Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei version. I don't think the original MT2 on Famicom got a translation patch like the MT1 did.

And yeah, SMT1 is a bit tough to get into, especially the beginning of the game. I've only played up to Ginza, which I've been told is about 1/3 into the game. But like another anon said the game has a great atmosphere and its soundtrack is great, like most MegaTen games.

I'd really like to just sit down and play through all of these games more if I had the time.
>>
>>387386458
Is Hybrid Heaven more of a personal thing or do you think it's something you would recommend to anyone? I always see it for cheap and it does seem cool but it also looks weird as fuck actually playing it and I hear mixed things.
>>
>>387386521
The only English version of SMTIII is the redux version and people seem to like it well enough.
>>
Recently been playing FFXII and trying to platinum it but got burned out on completing the Rare Game section in the beastiary, easily the most tedious part of the game
>>
>>387386680
Maniacs added good new content AND the labyrinth of amala is entirely optional for the player. I won't give a final judgment as the game isn't out yet but I'm skeptical of if the new content will be forced on you, I feel like Alex will be shoehorned into the game without much thought.
>>
>>387385806
I came to post this. Playing Growlanser 4 has been a blessing and a curse because most jrpga don't even come close to it.
>>387386146
Not him, but are you equipping those 75% chance of nulling magic sones? And buffing before every battle and casting shell/barrier? Earthquake is pretty broken too.
If everything fails you can always visit the arena, farm some blessing bells and break the game open.
>>
>>387386652
You have to realize it is a N64/PS1 3D Konami game so you need to adapt to the controls a bit. Though the mechanics can be fun since it has a natural growth system with using body parts raise their offense or defense if they keep on getting hit. You learn skills from enemies which has a huge risk versus reward if you try to learn skills that target the head since you can be rendered unconscious.if your head gets into a critical state.

The third person shooting is bare bones, you stand in one spot and fire your unlimited ammo diffuser, but it breaks up the pace from just walking around, and there are some platforming elements here and there which I wish there was more of in JRPG's or at least other things to do than to walk around the map and explore. It is a fairly linear game so there won't be too much exploration unlike other JRPG's that open up late game.

If you want a RPG in which you can pile drive your enemies into a coma and then sleeper hold their knocked out body then I suggest playing Hybrid Heaven.
>>
>When you are hideously overleveled against the final boss
It is hard to not just go exploring the world, but then I get in way too many fights.
>>
>>387387161

>>
>>387387047
Sounds interesting enough, thanks. I like how genuinely unique it is but just wasn't sure how good the execution was.
