>tfw I just beat the story mode for Klonoa 1 for the first time and my eyes were a bit watery at the ending.

Considering I finished the Story Mode for Door to Phantomile for the first time, I have to say it was a pretty good platformer that is rather challenging. And to be honest, I found it better than Kirby 64 and other Kirby games like Planet Robobot, and that's coming from a Kirby fan myself. How does Klonoa do it?

I feel like the big difference between Kirby and Klonoa is that Klonoa absolutely nails story telling
It makes you cry over weird fictional creatures speaking gibberish
As for gameplay, it's a masterpiece of 2.5D gameplay not seen in gaming

You get way more health to work with, and there's an english voice track (although the original language can be used too). Haven't got a chance to play it but from a gameplay standpoint it looked about the same. That being said I think the spritework and early 3D environments of the original are more endearing.

Not only that, but Starfy also nails in storytelling as well. Too bad there are still people out there who consider Starfy to be a Kirby ripoff (which it isn't). I just feel like both Klonoa and Starfy has more likeable characters than in Kirby as every new character Kirby introduces is like bland and then shoved away for cameos and references only.

Klonoa is an example of why 2.5D Sonic is bad.

Played through the first game yesterday, first time even though I'd played Lunatea years ago. The visuals and level design were top tier, up there with the "true classics" that really showcase what the PS1 was meant for.

A return to the vibe of the first game. I didn't really like the PS2 one.
