MGS3's stair climb is literally 4 textures (bottom floor, the climb, upper floor and the stairs themselves) and yet is one of the most aesthetic moment in all vidja. The manpower put onto a model/texture doesn't signify it's graphic value as much art direction and start use is.

Other example are Stalker's underground facilities, outdated by all means but the lighting use is brilliant and lets it be timeless.

People like you are the issue with the industry. If you think games today look like garbage then this is why they will only continue to produce graphics above all else. This is what the majority want. They want graphics which is sad. Good gameplay should be priority.

For me personally, resolution is a bigger deal than graphical fidelity. I wouldn't mind something like OP's image if I can look at it with nice smooth lines without jaggies. Low resolutions with no AA (like most Nintendo games) really hurt my eyes.

No you're not wrong. This is one of DS2's biggest crimes. DS1, DS3 and Bloodborne all have plenty (sometimes too many) environmental decoration. DS2 is literally walls with nothing everywhere.

Wish that more game developers went through the trouble to make the PS1's mediocre wobbly graphics as gorgeous as Megaman Legends. It hit that sweet spot between consistent style, palette, and innovative camera/tech trickery.

Any other lowres lowpoly games look this good?
