I'm well aware of how much stuff ends up on the cutting board, but a huge majority of that shit is often either rejected visual design concepts, or designs for gameplay feats that would not be possible with the era's tech / would go against the game's style.

MGS5 has so many characters, backstory details, and even gameplay features introduced, but then never utilized, leaving you with this hollow experience that's clearly lacking something. And these numerous "leaks" show exactly what was planned. One of the best examples, and best evidence for the V being unfinished, is the Venom's fucked-up color vision in the game's beginning, and how it was meant to be a legit plot-device in the 3rd chapter - where he (you as a player) ends up shooting Eli by mistake because of it.

After GZ, Big Boss was in a coma.

While in a coma, it was decided the medic who was in the chopper with Miller, Chico and Boss would be used as a decoy while Boss was in his coma elsewhere. The Medic was kept in a medically induced coma.

At some point, Zero tasked Ocelot with using hypno therapy on the coma induced Medic to make him think he's Big Boss, to keep up the ruse should Cypher find and capture him. Ocelot also hypnotised himself to see the Medic as Big Boss.

A few weeks before the game starts, Big Boss wakes up from the coma and it's decided there will be 2 Big Boss's in order to continue fooling Cypher, who are getting close. The Medic is taken out of his coma when Cypher let Ocelot know XOF are close to finding "Big Boss", so the real Big Boss stays behind until the XOF unit attack and guides the Medic, who now thinks he's Big Boss, to Ocelot, who convinces him to build an army and rescue Miller.

Miller, who has been blinded, eventually learns that the Big Boss he's been allying with isn't the real one, and ends up continuing to work with him out of spite.

Then the game unfolds.

The problem was that the prerelease media was so fucking cool. Everyone watched the trailers dozens of times and got hyped but when the same stuff happened in the game it completely fell flat.

Skullface in the trailers sounded so cool, being backed up with an awesome New Order song.
