Just compare an old favorite to a new game and ask "which of these would I rather play right now?". You could also possibly take a moment to replay the older game again just for a few minutes.

I used to play tons of fighting games ten years ago. I don't anymore. I don't have them in my top 9 list. This doesn't meant that I think they're bad games now or have aged poorly or whatever the hell; I just don't let my past tastes determine my current favorites to that extent.

I mean, yeah, I could easily make my 3X3 just IIDX titles and Beatmania III The Final, but that's not particularly interesting, and putting a generic IIDX logo doesn't quite work for the format either, since collections do skirt around the limitation.

I currently have the fortune to live near two Round1s and Galloping Ghost. They're quite alive for me. But I put that in there as the caveat for a way to play video games in a public setting. Otherwise, were it not for them, my stance would be that video games should only be played at home, and that if you are out in public, you should be doing something with your time other than trying to play video games.

Handheld platforms are cheaper to develop for too, and shovelware is easy to dodge and infinitely less than PC or mobile. I feel like they're mainly good for lower budget Japanese games, like the SMTs on the 3DS

Boktai, right? Needs sunlight? There are those weather stations you hook up in your home to get weather conditions. Have the game sync up to one of those. There, now Boktai can work on PC. I don't know what EO does that makes it uniquely suited to handhelds, but I'm quite sure something could be figure out.

Just because a game can run so much better or have better graphics doesn't mean it should. Not every game needs to be a giant full priced beast. Not every dev team has those assets and they shouldn't be forced to devote those extra millions into the development of those games. They're not full priced, and raw power doesn't make a game. The Vita is a perfect example. The development costs were so high they had no reason not to just develop for console. The hoops you're talking about jumping through for Boktai are ridiculous, btw.
