I just physically nor mentally can't believe that anyone liked Jak 2. It was so bad.
The first one was okay.

Jak II is a mixed bad, i certainly had a lot of fun playing it but there's a lot of poor aspects.

R&C1 did the whole platformer-shooter hybrid schtick a lot better yet Ratchet fans recognize that game's shooting gameplay sucked. and the later games had better controls. Jak II and 3 compare terribly in that regard.

I wanted to actually start PS2 platformers, since I completed PSX ones years ago and returning to this genre. Where should I start? Sly, Jak, or R&C? I liked Skullmonkeys/oddword/heartofdarkness the most, then Crash then Spyro. Didnt like Gex and Croc.

Jak 1 is going to be the most familiar to you, it's a straightforward collectathon with seamless world hubs like Spyro.
Jak II and 3 go for a GTA-esque open world style instead, they have vehicles and guns and shit like that. They feel a bit unfocused to me.
Ratchet and Clank is a platformer mixed with a shooter too, but both parts are excellent. Linear levels but there's a little bit of leeway when it comes to the order you can complete them. Lots of creative weapons and gadgets. Gradually becomes more about shooting and less about platforming.

sounds really dissapointing. But I guess will try out Ratchet and Clank regardless. Better this than playing newgrounds flash games quality on PS3

Haven't played Sly but I'd play the games in this order.
J&D: TPL>R&C1>R&C2>R&C3. R: Gladiator is also worth playing but I wouldn't recommend the other Jak games.
I played the games like this
R&C3>R&C2>R: Gladiator>J&D: TPL>R&C1
Now that I think about it I think the third Ratchet and Clank game is the best introduction to the series. Sly are also definitely good games worth checking out.
There isn't really any 'best way' to get into these games.

I've played a demo of the first one, watched game play of the series and reviews. A lot of its very positive and looks fun. So i'd say it's pretty safe to call them good games that are worth checking out. Don't own a ps2 or ps3 anymore so I can't.

Sly as a whole is fantastic. The first one is great going in from the PS1 era platformers, with Sly 2 becoming more open but its perfect for the mechanics.
