I honestly think it was handled pretty okay. This game has more branching paths than your average RPG so you could be a 'turbo edgelord with no regards for anyone but yourself' or 'goodguy shadow fighting for his friends'.

It's definitely one of the more interesting Sonic spinoffs at least. If only it had better controls and level design.

I dropped this game after two stages it was that bad.

I did it twice after my memory card wiped itself. It's a lot easier than doing everything in SA2 or even Heroes honestly.

Also it's been over a decade, but Eggman telling Shadow that he's the real Shadow happens 9 minutes into the 3 or so minute final boss and not even in a cutscene. You know, the whole fucking point of the game. God damn.

Lethal Highway and Circus Park were legitimately awesome stages though.

I find it weird that Sonic 06 did Shadow infinitely more justice than this game ever did by having him basically say "fuck the angsty bullshit, I do my own thing regardless" and I can't for the life of me think of why they went with the emo characterization they did for SHTH.
