It's an RPG, its a pale shadow of an RPG but it is one, you at least know the setting and general theme.

So in NV, the first character I played was a gunslinger with high luck, because vegas has casinos and there was a wild west theme in there.

There was a moustache option to give you the classic waxed tips look, so I made him an old man.

The game let me later play factions off each other (to an extent, and sadly not as much as I hoped) so I ended up playing revolver fucking ocelot, using lucky the entire game and building on my stats to reflect that.

It's not always that easy, in Dark Souls I ended up wearing the thief shroud and some armour (pre dlc) along with Artorias' cursed sword, as if I was taking on the mantle of a darkwraith artorias, It wasn't actually a great build for it because I didn't know what I needed for the sword before I went in, but damn if I didn't fucking enjoy it.

That's the ultimate goal man, think of something you'd enjoy to play and COMMIT to it.
