Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.
>>
>>387329202
None of that is true.
>>
Ignoring the existence T5DR, T6 and TTT2 it is a good game. However as an update to the series (which what new installments of fighting games really are - they are not really properly new games at all) it is shitty and all the changes except the graphics are for the worse.
>>
>>387328931
It's alright but you need a fight stick unfortunately. Certain characters are impossible to play on a pad and that's annoying for a console game
>>
>>387329501
>>387329640
So much bait in this thread.
>>
>>387328931
I'm really liking it. Took a while to get used to strings coming from SF/anime, but the breadth of systems available makes it really easy to find something you're good at, or something to improve, and try to build a strategy around it. The roster seems pretty balanced (except at top-level play, fuck Jack), so if you find a character who appeals to you chances are you can make them work.
>>
>>387329680
I'm not about to read what that other guy said but I'm serious about requiring a fight stick.

Needing to do stuff like pressing square and circle simultaneously and the pure speed required to chain moves pretty much necessitates more than a thumb
>>
>>387329202
I'm surprised you took the time to write this tripe.

As someone who has played Street Fighter most of my life, and played with a competative attitude towards the games, Tekken 7 blows SFV and KoF out of the water.

I'm actually having fun, even when I'm losing. I'm grasping the mechanics and utilising the 3d space is interesting and fresh. Character designs are cool and have flavour to them.

I'm thoroughly enjoying my time with the game.
>>

>I'm surprised you took the time to write this tripe.
It's a pasta that gets posted in every single T7 thread
>>
>>387329908
I'm more surprised there are still people on this site with any interest in tekken that haven't seen this pasta before.
>>
>>387328931
If you want to learn the game and take the time to learn the mechanics outside of the game (because there's no tutorial for some fucking reason), it's one of the most fun fighting games ever.
>>
>>387329680
Pretty lukewarm bait huh? I did admit it was still a good game. And I'll add that very little has changed overall so the vast majority of the good stuff is still there.

>>
>>387329870
I would take you serious if you had said something about advanced movement and crouch dashes, but chaining move with more than two buttons?
Fuck off.
>>
>>387328931
If you are a beginner don't buy it. I did and I feel nothing but regret.
>>
>>387330183
>>387330247
I'm aware but I still found myself being a trigger or 2 short and having to compromise for certain characters.

I can get past that. But how fast you have to press buttons in succession to chain moves is ridiculous. I literally have to slide my thumb. I've played a lot of fighting games and never have run into timing this ridiculous.

Its definitely not unplayable but seems much more built around arcade play than other fighting games. I feel like pad players have an even bigger disadvantage than usual
>>
>>387330730
You're just slow, I doubt you'd be any better with a stick.
>I feel like pad players have an even bigger disadvantage than usual
Funny you say that because tekken is one of the few fighting games where some pros use pads.
>>
>>387330358
Go try Josie's trials and don't slide your thumb. The move won't come out
>>
>>387330665
Why?
>>
Where the fuck is my Tekkenbowl?
>>
>>387330907
Give me the inputs.
>>
Crouch dash input moves are really fucking hard on a pad, everything else is great

The game I balanced by virtue of having characters largely all be the same, which isn't a bad thing
>>
>>387330878
>You're just slow
I'm fucking not though man. I've never had this problem in guilty gear. Especially for something as basic as pressing 2 buttons in a row
>>
>>387329202
This gets posted in every thread lol
>>
>>387331095
Only just frame ones are.
>>
>>387328931
Does the fact that no one's playing it anymore give you a clue?
>>
>>387330730
Maybe you should stop playing drunk or stop playing fast games all together.

>>387330907
What is the problem with sliding your thumb? Lots of moves especially anything with [input, input] need you to do that but it's still a piece of cake, and chaining shit aside from combos that require movement inbetween is piss easy compared to games like SF, KoF or god help me animu fighters.
>>
>>387331153
I play Yoshi and his crouch dash inputs are finicky as they come
>>
>>387330991
Because there is so much stuff you need to study and I don't know where to start. My inputs always fail, my combos never work, my movement is slow. I played for hours and don't see any improvement but you should improve the fastest in the beginning right? My frustration tolerance just isn't very high I guess..
>>
>>387330730
What character are you trying to use? Are you playing the game with a potato controller that has input lag?
>>
>>387330261
It has good gameplay, but especially Tekken 5, and Tekken 6/TTT2 are a bit better:
-Better movement
-more interesting and complex Okizeme
-Throws are viable fpr any character
-No retarded comeback mechanic (although T6/TTT2 rage damage was a bit too crazy)
>>
How hard is Tekken to get into in comparison to other fighting games?
>>
>>387331171
>Lots of moves especially anything with [input, input] need you to do that
That's exactly what I'm saying. Chaining normal moves shouldn't require sliding your thumb in less than a millisecond imo

But that's just me. If OP doesn't think that sliding your thumb around is awkward then he should ignore my criticism. The game is good but I found that ridiculous and wanted a stick

Not really hard. The game has good scaling for skill levels so you can still have fun if you suck.
>>
>>387331514
this game has a ton of characters and you don't know any of their moves also it is game 7 + expansion or whatever so what do these things mean to you
>>
>>387331453
Normal PS4 controller. Going through Josie's moves is where I noticed it being too strict
>>
>>387328931
It is, but it's also really boring. The franchise is so stagnant it doesn't actually feel like it has made any real improvements since Tekken 5DR. You can also tell that the second this game came out on console, they shifted 99% of the team toward making a new game. They are extremely slow to address issues with this game or add new content. Geese taking as long to come out as he is is seriously ridiculous.
>>
>>387331693
On PC or PS4? If you use Bluetooth on PC there can be a lot of input lag depending on your Bluetooth adapter. For shits and giggles I tried with a $10 Bluetooth adapter on PC and it was unplayable.
>>
>>387331796
Maybe they are actually working on Tekken x Street Fighter then.

>>
>>387331870
PS4. I even play on a tv that I researched having incredibly low lag a couple yrs ago.

But input lag wouldn't explain my problem though. It's just how fast buttons need to be pressed in succession. Lag would just show my character pulling it off on screen slightly later

Sure, Iike I can fight and do combos too. It just annoys me when I'm going through a characters move list and I can't do a basic chain reliability. A problem I've never had in the countless other fighting games I've played.

Doesn't mean I can't play the game, but I can usually blast through a characters move list no problem. Don't drop a single input
>>
>>387331514

i think tekken is very beginner friendly but also very beginner unfriendly at the same time

it's really easy to go pick up a character because you don't really need to know much aside from your standard punishes, launchers and then a few combos to go along with that. also, provided with the fact that everyone possesses a set of basically universal tools, it's not hard to learn

however every character also has like 100 moves and everyone is basically dishonest as fuck so when you go online you're going to not know what anyone does and keep getting launched and hit with lows and blown up because your defense sucks
>>
>>387332974
Block high, unless you see them attack low, then block low. Everything is blockable on reaction. Tekken is one of the more honest fighters compared to shit like SFV.
>>
>>387332098

moves like [3,4] Specifically require you to input the buttons quickly so you get a different move and not just the 3,4 string. This is intended and I slide my thumb to do this as well. It's not wrong, just get used to it.
>>
>>387332813

>>
>>387332076
more like excrement amarite?
>>
>>387333123

its not just about getting hit by lows, it's about knowing the properties of moves and how to properly defend against it which makes it hard for beginners. without proper knowledge, noobs can really easily get blown up

for example dragunov has that b+4,2,1 string. it's fast, positive on block, and noobs always get blown up trying to hit after it. the only way to really punish it is to duck or hit him with a high crush and i don't think it's very easy for beginners to just figure that out from the first time they start getting hit with it. a lot of characters have a lot of setups and mixups which are hard to deal with if you don't have the knowledge.
>>
>>387328931
It's good. Haven't gotten a stick yet so I play with the DS4 and can do combos, but the dpad hurts my thumb after long play sessions. Since footsies is king in Tekken, I really don't recommend playing it with a pad.

It's not a sharp pain or anything extreme. Guess "pain" is too strong of a word whereas "uncomfortable" would be a better description.
