ITT: Essential Gothic Vidya
Hopefully the thread doesn't devolve into bickering about what gothic means.
>>387321059

>>387325227
The GoG version has the fix already included and installed.
someone will reinstall it
>>387325350
No it doesn't you lying retard
>>387325397
>ever uninstalling it
>>387325434
It does, they include it because the game won't even run anymore after Microsoft disabled some DRM checker so they include the Unofficial Patch to make it playable.

>what do you mean by gothic
Gothic can mean a lot of things, it's basically just a word that originated from the Goths and meant obscene or distasteful.
These days it's mostly used in relation to neo-gothic arcitecture, vampire and werewolves and dark and edgy teens.

Bloodborne is shit

>I said a thing!
>>387327917
King's Field.
Shadow Hearts Covenant feels very gothic
>>387328230
Good recommendation just for the game itself. I'm glad someone remembers it.
Darkest Dungeon perhaps?
>>387328837
Most things Lovecraftian qualifies.
Also Eternal Darkness.
If you like VtMB you might want to look at Bloodlust Shadowhunter. It's got some clear influences from VtMB but it's more of a dungeon crawler. The combat is a bit unpolished but I've still played the game twice and enjoyed it.
>>387328230
Yeah, I think the first game is better both in general and as a "gothic" game though
not 2
>>387321392
Uh no...
>>387321059
>pause menu
would u guys recommend bloodlines
>>387330642
>DMC1
>Not gothic
Shiggy diggy
>>387325203
The only answer. I'm actually surprise it wasn't fp
>>387331230
Everyone should play Bloodlines, even if you dislike vampires you should play Bloodlines.
>>387331230
I just played it last week after putting it off for over a decade, it's fantastic. I'm going to play through it again next week as a malkavian.
>>387321059
Shit, now I have to play this again
>>387328146
Shadow tower and shadow tower:abyss to add to that
>>387331848
Was such a good game. I think I played it on gamecube originally. Loved every minute of it.
the architecture was gothic
>>387330181
It seems we like VtMB for different reasons.
>>387323071
>>387331576
just finished my malkavian run, those dialouge options are awesome, gonna run it as a noseferatu now to try out their playstyle
>>387326935
Jesus christ, what a cunt.
I'm a fucking beta and i always pick the polite option, but when i had to decide with her i just picked the most rude things in all successive dialogue options.
Fuck doing an entire sidequest just to have someone ruin it for you
>>387332745
Not him but a game with VtmB atmosphere is better than nothing, it's not like we have a lot of games with vampires.
It's decent, really surprising considering how shit it seems to be when you first see it.
>>387333529
Agreed.
>>387321059
Fallout 1 had some churches
>>387333050
Malkavian is generally more unique than all other clans.
That said, in terms of how unique each clan is treated throughout the game, it would go like this:
malkavian > nosferatu > tremere > the rest
Yet I like nosferatu more than malkavian because of the witticisms you can reply with regarding your appearance. It's really well handled imo, you'll see for yourself. You don't have to use the sewers, the NPCs' vision cone is small enough, just don't go bumping into them on purpose and you'll be safe.
>>387332237
No where near as good as Rondo or SC4.
>>387331576
I have some unofficial patch installed for this game, is there a particularly recommended one for it because I can't remember what the fuck I installed for it.
>>387335832
Just the latest update of the Unofficial Patch. I think the newest one is version 9.8 beta 3. Basic version for first playthrough, plus version if you want to see cut/unused content on repeat playthroughs.
>so many ps2 games in this thread
Are ps2 emulators still shit?
>>387331230
It's Deus Ex in the WoD setting.
You do like Deus Ex, right anon?
>>387336857
I think they're supposed to work fairly decently if your PC is good enough to maintain high FPS. I've tried playing a few games using PCSX2 and they seemed to run okay but my PC isn't good enough and they slow down a lot.
>>387321059
>Do first playthrough as Malkavian
>Every other playthrough as a different clan cant hold my interest
RE1
The rest of the games not so much, but that mansion setting is scary-comfy.
>>387321059
Ok that's it, installing VtMB again.
Anyone have the up to date image of what mods / patch is currently the best?
>>387334863
true, but it has the best music
>>387338302
you can't appreciate how unique malkavian is if you don't play a normal clan first, which is why people recommend not starting with malk
nosferatu is worth trying though
I played through VTMB like six times and now I'm absolutely sick of it
>>387336857
They aren't as good as dolphin bit definitely servicable. Depends on how good your cpu is though. If you play at native resolution windowed you should get good framerates with minimal slow downs
>>387321059
Are there any gothic horror themed MMOs that are still active? They don't necessarily have to be good.
>>387321571
Is this an, "easy games to platinum" thread?
>>387338302
Same thing happened to me. First run I did a ranged/dementation Malk, then on my second run I did a stealthy/melee one. After that I started to get more interested in doing runs with other clans.
>>387321059
You're confusing romanticism with gothic.
>>387338507
Just get the latest version of the Unofficial Patch, here's the link for it:
http://www.patches-scrolls.de/patch/4647/7/74412/download
Most mods add a little bit of content which is nice but 90% of the game is still the same, don't bother with them unless you know VtMB inside and out.
Gothic art was a style of medieval art that developed in Northern France out of Romanesque art in the 12th century AD, led by the concurrent development of Gothic architecture. It spread to all of Western Europe, and much of Southern and Central Europe, never quite effacing more classical styles in Italy. In the late 14th century, the sophisticated court style of International Gothic developed, which continued to evolve until the late 15th century. In many areas, especially Germany, Late Gothic art continued well into the 16th century, before being subsumed into Renaissance art. Primary media in the Gothic period included sculpture, panel painting, stained glass, fresco and illuminated manuscripts. The easily recognizable shifts in architecture from Romanesque to Gothic, and Gothic to Renaissance styles, are typically used to define the periods in art in all media, although in many ways figurative art developed at a different pace.
The earliest Gothic art was monumental sculpture, on the walls of Cathedrals and abbeys. Christian art was often typological in nature (see Medieval allegory), showing the stories of the New Testament and the Old Testament side by side. Saints' lives were often depicted. Images of the Virgin Mary changed from the Byzantine iconic form to a more human and affectionate mother, cuddling her infant, swaying from her hip, and showing the refined manners of a well-born aristocratic courtly lady.

The literary movement that's much younger, in particular its "pulp" or "pop culture" notion.

>>387338870
Yeah I've played the game about 2 dozen times, and while I'm not sick of it I don't enjoy it as much sometimes but then that's when I'll stop playing and wait 6-12 months. After not playing it for a while or thinking about it so much I'll want to play again.
It's funny when I play again though, I'll do a playthrough then immediately start a second playthrough with a different character build, then usually mess around on a third one but not finish it. Happens every time.
I also started listening to the OST a lot when I wasn't playing, then got into some of the bands more and checked out the rest of their stuff. A lot of them are really good.

I still have no idea why the Americans didn't simply call it New Romanticism. Original Gothic Fiction was done by bored aristocracy in ruins of Gothic castles.
