I'm new to shmups. Haven't played much outside of really casual ones, like Galaga, Space Invaders, or pic related. Anything you guys would recommend to a beginner?

If I remember right, there was a lot of people wanting Futari instead when Mushihimesama came out, and wanting SDOJ (or basically anything else) instead when DFK was announced. Those two seem like good choices, I think.

I hope we get Deathsmiles 2 eventually, but I realize there are games that should probably come first, so I'm willing to wait patiently.

Hey, that is odd. I can't even find Mushihimesama Gold Label or Dodonpachi Unlimited anymore, and those were just released last year. Also, in Espgaluda 2 and Deathsmiles's case, they weren't kept up to date and stopped working after Android system updates. It was never fixed, so I presume that's why they were taken off of the Play Store. No idea what happened with the more recent games though, I remember getting them just fine when they first came out.
