The problem with the english versions is that, like you mentioned, they are used for everything and generalize the term too much.

That's why there are discussions about games being or not of a specific genre, Metroid Prime being a fps or not is one of such problems.
Japs call the games for what they are, it avoids confusion and provides better organization and proper differentiation.

You know that these genre titles are in fact all English words in Japanese right? The Nips use English Loan Words for almost everything gaming related.

There's no such thing as better or worse genre names. You either know what type of game a given term refers to, or you don't. You might prefer one term over another, most of us do in at least some cases, but that's just irrational bias rather than qualitative comparison.

In Castlevania you have much, much wider array of weapons, armor, and sub-attacks, all of which are freely changeable, because all of them are useful at various times. You also level up.
Rather than something like Metroid, where every beam/suit upgrade is a step up and always more useful. You can't even disable them except in Super Metroid.
Those elements are on such a completely different scale it's like saying Pokemon is a Metroidvania, because there are parts of the map that are blocked off by the various HM's.
