87% feels pretty high. Though I don't know if those who didnt do it even started the game or never started it. I don't know when these are counted from.
What's embarassing is the 5% drop off for DS1 which is 1 minute of game time

Steam achievements weren't added into DS1 (previously GFWL) until just before the launch of DS2. You had a very small period to port your achievements over and not a lot of people did it.

This, the achievements for DS1 are fairly new. You had to replay the game to get them even if you 100% it before.
DS1's controls on pc were complete shit. I know I started it, moved around a bit and dropped the game immediately.

Why the fuck wouldn't you use a controller?

This. I dont know if they patched it but if they did I would be down

i dont know what these achievments are but i know that i quitted dark souls 2 before i even saw any enemies
they gave dark souls 1 out for free before

Are you implying DS1 was the worst Dark souls based off of sales or something?
DS1 is the point for new players to determine if they want to jump into the series or not. More people get it, especially because it's cheap as dirt when sales come around, and those players only log a few minutes to see if it's worth their time. It has a lower retention rate.
Meanwhile mostly experienced players get 2 or 3, thus having a higher retention rate and more players getting to those starting points.
