It's just business as usual with them. They do this all the time to create a artifical shortage and with that comes tons of scalpers buying it up before regular gamers get to buy them.

It's basically a way to generate hype and demand. They pulled this many times in the past with various games. I remember when stores stopped taking preorders of fire emblem awakening like a month before it even came out.

The real reason is that they dont debt finance their production phases, and only operate on their actual money. Its why they have great margins and have a great RoE

I spent like 17~18 hours F5ing the brand new Nintendo Store to pre-order mine back in January. My blood was all carbs and caffeine by the end but it was worth it I think. Cheaper than buying it back home too.

US actually. Went to a Walmart that had five in-stock. When I got there, the store was deserted and was in and out with a brand-new Switch in like five minutes. Granted it was an hour away and it was 7 in the morning, beats buying one from a scalper or waiting in a damn lottery.

Similar here. Drove to a Wal-Mart at like 10 in the morning and luckily for me they had like 15 switches in stock. Snagged it just before the Splatfest testfire.

They finally sold out after a week of being there.
