I forget where but there's a chapter congratulating the final 10 mamodos for making it. Start there I guess? The manga version of the Faudo arc is amazing. I honestly don't remember the chapters, but I remember enjoying reading it all the way through. It was a surprisingly satisfying manga. Especially for a kid-oriented one.

In general, it just felt cheapily animated and kidified in tone, and the art doesn't compare at all to how good the manga art gets, pic related.

But the real problem is it butcheres the second half (the better half) of what's not only the best arc of the series, but arguably the best arc in battle shonen period, and changes it entirely for the worse, and then the anime just ends, not covering the final arc at all.

The anime is good for it's OST, adaptions of the song scenes, like 1 specific fight (the Belegium EO fight), and that's about it.

Worth reading yourself to find out, but...

Final villain, Clear Note shows up, shit gets real and various stuff happens throughout the first half of that arc. Gash/Zatch, Tio/Tia, Kanchome, Umagon/Ponygon and Brago all train to beat him. Tio, Kanchome, and Umagon all get their book burnt after the training en route to the final fight.

Gash and Brago engage Clear, fights to a standstill, villian unleashes his true final form to beat them. Suddenly, the spirits of all of Gash's previous friends whose books got burnt appear and absolutely rekt clear with the ultimate final versions of their spells if they had unlocked them in like a 2 chapter long nonstop beatdown of hugeass spells being fired off. Clear gets assmad and goes into space to blow up the planet.

Gash rockets up to space using Umagon's final spell, and unleashes a planet sized Bao Zakeruga powered up by the will of every other demon/mamado to funish clear off. Clear gets defeated.

Gash and Brago agree to have a final battle in a few weeks after Kiyo graduates from middle school, during the graduation ceremoney, it hits both kiyo and gash that after their fight with brago, they'll never see each other again. They break down crying. Fast foward to the fight with bragon, and Gash wins, with Brago finally addmiting to sherry that she was a good partner and he was being a stuck up ass the entire time. Gash vanishes back to the demon world, you see him be crowned king, and every book owner gets a letter from their partner and Gash's is the final epilogue.
