I played it for the first time just recently, or I finished it for the first time recently anyway. I'd say it's aged quite well, it plays just fine and it looks a lot better than a lot of other PS2 games too. The only things that made it feel like it was being limited by technology were the framerate and the lack of landmarks.

No, I played it on the PS2. The framerate didn't bother me too much anyway, so I don't really regret it. Did they add an option to turn off the hints from Dormin in the HD collection? That's the only real problem I had with the game.

Definitely the GTA games unfortunately. The gunplay in those games are just dogshit compared to what came after. Makes it very hard to go back to playing them.
