How come Gamers are so upset of the idea of other mediums pandering to them?
People who play Sports don't get upset at Sports anime, shitposting about "Us Basketball Players aimright? XDDD".
I have to admit I do kind of feel awkward and semi-embarassed whenever videogames come up in other media but I can't really explain why myself.

Basketball is basketball, no trademarks or copyrights can change that and the core discussions and experiences from it can be pretty universal. All it takes to enjoy an anime about basketball is an interest and understanding of one game. Videogames in other media so often wind up being mindless "DAE reference to OoT?" garbage that's extremely shallow because there's no way you can expect your audience to have a proper understanding of all the games you do. The subject matter being just videogames in general is so vast you can't do anything meaningful with it. This can't even be solved by focusing on one game, since the game's owners are going to come down hard if you don't dance around copyright infringement. Sports and shit can focus on the love of the game itself while video games are stuck with shallow referential humor that makes Family Guy look good. Oh, and don't forget to appeal to the normalfags who don't understand any of this shit, or else your show will be dropped halfway through season one.

But in OPs case it's not, it's the subject of the show like Basketball is the subject of Kuroko no Basket.
In both cases the hobby in question is greatly over-exaggerated, unrealistic and inaccurate but only one demographic gets butthurt about it.

NoGameNoLife and Log Horizon (only season 1) are the only good "stuck in a game" shows ever made.

Why does this show feel like shoujo except with a mismatched artstyle? The situations are a carbon copy of shoujo style, which is to make everything when it comes to relationships as convoluted as possible, and even if the couple somehow end up fucking, the next episode they will do a hard reset and be back to barely friends again, every single episode. At least it's not as bad as some, (prime example is Kimi ni Todoke), but it's still pretty exaggerated at this point and glorifies muh complicated emotions and muh relationships are hard.
