i was strictly a nintendo kid growing up so never got into it, even though loads of my friends played it.

i really wanted to get in to the series at some point, seeing as how it's so iconic, so i picked up the original game for ps1 a few months back. i just couldn't get into it. it was definitely not a "bad" game, it just didn't click with me.. i was kinda bored the whole time. got to the part with the sniper girl and gave up.

honestly didn't dislike it out of any brand loyalty or not being able to get into older games or anything -- it just didn't do it for me. (i picked up ff7 recently - which i also missed as a kid - and sunk 50+ hrs in one week, loved that game.)

It would be the best if it had an actual graphical overhaul without altering the gameplay at all, it has the most memorable story, characters and dialogue of the saga and It's a pioneer in the genre. 3 would be better if it wasn't such a menu simulator

It's pretty overrated. The pacing is just terrible, even compared to the other MGS games.
Most of the game is just walk to another room, watch cutscene, walk to another room, watch cutscene, backpedal 4 rooms, watch cutscene. It's pretty much 5 minutes of cutscenes for 1 minute of play since the game is so short and the map is so small.

Still a fun ride, but I don't get why it's often being lauded as one of the best MGS games on here.

Casual. You shouldn't even use FPP unless in boss fights in MGS2.

Way ahead of it's time when it came out on the PS1 compared to a lot of other games.

Slightly dated gameplay with a horrible camera that forces you to rely on first person view and the radar system entirely, however these problems were addressed in 2 and onwards Minus MGS3 original release

Twin Snakes is awful. That disgusting Nintendoughey music, and that tinkering with the cutscenes and voice acting. Some of the best atmosphere of any video game was thrown out the window as well.

Release order. Start with MG1 and 2 if you're brave enough, then the Solid Series. Twin Snakes is worth playing, but you should wait a while after 1 before playing it, as the presentation is radically difficult. I say play it once you're done with the main series.
