THere are a shitloads of studios opening in Quebec province since the prov government give extremely generous handouts/incentives/tax breaks BUT the pool of competent people we produce is mostly tapped. Most of the talented people actually were hired by Unisoft or WB or EA back then, so when they upgraded EA mobile to a full studio they had to make due with what was avqalaible in the hiring pool, ie rejects from other studios or fresh out of college people ( and even while you may be excellent and talented, you are not ready for the crunch and stress right out of college)

That's how you end with Andromeda. There was also a lot of fuckery with the higher rank people switching around, but that's just standard studio fuckery

Depends on the country. Most countries will find some kind of workaround or penalise you for trying to get overtime. The reason LA Noire had so much trouble with Rockstar and Team Bondi is because aussies have extremely strict occupational health and safety regulations, and extremely strict regulations on working hours and required breaks/ overtime, and easy access to watchdog institutions that can cause problems for the developers.

The 80 hour stuff wouldn't fly, but companies can still try to push the boundaries and squeeze 5-10 hours extra unpaid hours a week out of workers and then strong arm them into not pursuing it.

I don't know if canada is different but salary means you're not paid hourly in any form, you make that much whether you work more than that or less.
