Yeah it is a great look at how the series used to be, and a great starting point.

I would recommend getting Forces or Generations too.

It's absolutely worth a try even if you haven't played the older games. It combines arguably the best levels from the older games and adds some new ones too.

Hopefully it'll get you wanting to play the old games too. Hope you like it, man.

It's arguably the best Sonic game so far. Only real competition is Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

Probably a great place to start, but as a newcomer you're probably not going to notice a lot of little details.

Perhaps you should emulate Sonic 1, 2 or 3 & Kunckles for Genesis and find out if you'd like to spend $20 on a game with the same physics and character playstyles as those games.

It being $20 for what amounts to the length of Sonic 3 & Knuckles is definitely worth it if you enjoy any of the classic Sonic games given those games use to run you $50+ when they launched in the 90s.
