I'm on chapter 4. So far the game consists of going somewhere, killing one group of mobs, then using auto travel and waiting 5 minutes on the loading screen. Rinse. Repeat.

Really? I'm on chapter 3 and all of my game time has been devoted to hunts, which are fun to me.
The other quests that require you to find shit kinda suck though.

I never finished it. I got up to the part where you reach the meteor thing and fight that giant dude but honestly.

I guess I liked it... It just wasn't good enough to hold my attention over the myriad of other shit I had.

Hunts are basically taking your car to some place, walking a little, killing the mob, going back to the car, back to the tipster with auto travel.

And I like that for some reason. Killing different types of monsters is a big draw for me and I've basically abandoned the story to do the hunts instead.

Don't auto travel then. It takes like 50 hours of walking on foot to Max level gladios survival ability anyway, which has good loot benefits and gets you a trophy
