Because of immersion. If I want to throw my suspense of disbelief out of the window, I'll play a jap game where you play as a loli where you can punch moons into oblivion.

But if I want to play as an edgy woman trying to survive a nuclear holocauts, there better be a lot of fucking dirt, grime and smog.

Too bad that the cost of such graphic advancements comes with really choppy mechanics, so in the end, the game that tries to ba game ends up being more fun than the one that tries to be a fantasy simulator.

I can't get immersed in a stylized world. It's just too fake. If I could have graphics look exactly like real life, then that would be better than anything that stylized graphics could ever do.
