How's that backlog coming along, /v/?
I bit off more than I could chew and ended up dropping Persona 3 and Dark Souls 3. The worst part is that I keep wanting to go back to games I've already played and have to sort of force myself go through something new. I've just finished Liberty City Stories for the third time and I'm in the middle of my third Skyrim playthrough (atleast I this time I intent to play the DLCs too, so that's something new at least). I recently picked up Horizon Zero Dawn and started up Rune Classic, so it's not all bad though.
Finally got a good smartphone and started playing vice city again, since it's one of my favourite games and the PC port is riddled with issues.
On PC shit's huge and keeps getting bigger, no only that working on a restaurant in the summer literally fucks you up, and so when I get home I just got time for some sleep.
>>387227223
I'm playing through it slowly but surely. The problem is - it might be growing faster than that.
Hell is real.
>>387227223
What is a backlog? I only play videogames
>>387228223
what is this?
>>387228391
Backloggery or w/e it's called. Like MAL for video games.
>>387228465
gotcha, thanks
Stuck on the stasis giants in persona 3 fes. On hard. Its pretty retarded how you need a specific immunity to slash damage to win this fight. My options are limited to leveling my Chernobog or replacing my already awesome Thor with one that has the ability.
If i could control my entire party id probably be able to win but this retarded game only lets you control the lead character. Absolutely fucking stupid. Fun game so far tho
I own hundreds upon hundreds of games that I will never play
>tfw no backlog
>>387227223
Are there really people who force themselves to finish games and stuff? Just play whatever you feel like playing.
>>387228950
If you buy games, you should probably give them a good go
>>387229370
I buy a lot of games when I find them for cheap. Sometimes it takes ages before I get to try them. For instance, I bought a brand new copy of Bayonetta 2 for like 7 Yurobucks almost a year ago and still haven't given it a try.
since summer started I completed
>pokemon gold
>call of cthulhu dcote
>shinobido
>prinny
>diablo
>vagrant story
mostly games I played around release date but never finished, don't know why since they're all great.
felt like a huge weight being released from my mind once I shelved those. Still have shitload of dropped rpgs and grindfests to pickup back though.
Good luck
Watched a streamer instead of playing last night.. my time on earth is becoming less and less significant :/
Nope.

All but three are games I own. There's definitely more games to be added into that unfinished section, but fug.

This generation is rotton, anon. There are kids that won't play games unless it has an achievement system, so that everyone else can see what they "achieved" in the game... Sad times.

I was asking because of the low "completed" numbers. Seems strangely low to me.
I don't know which one to play honestly. Help?
>>387230584
It's not about showing the world. I honestly lose track of my Steam games I've played or not played and it also feels good to cross them off the "list" if you will.

>>387230884
I don't. I always keep very little games installed.

>>387230771
I've played
>alan wake & AN
repetitive but has a gorgeous world, kind of a meh story but enjoyable on a meta level about writer's block
>alien isolation
drags on a bit without introducing anything new but it's the best game ever made about alien and feels very authentic to the first movieaka the best one
>fallout 4
removes a lot of the rpg but the open world looting is alright
>nier tomato
it's obviously got heart, and it's a good game but I'd slap a low 7/10 sticker on it. don't go in with expectations in the clouds like I did
>teefs
dark project has some sweet tomb raiding and metal age some sweet theafan, both are excellent
>witcher 2 & 3
I didn't care for 2 too much but 3 is one of the best written modern wrpgs dialogue wise
>>387230771

Having a backlog honestly just holds you back. Play what you enjoy and go back to revisit something you haven't finished before if you find it fun at the moment. Iknow that I'll forget down the line but ther are also some games I intend to play but just don't have time or means to do at the moment (My PSP broke), so I'll put them on the backburner and note them down so I can go back at some point and beat/complete them. This site has nothing to offer anybody. There is no quality content here you cannot get more quickly and efficiently elsewhere. This is an addiction which reduces your productivity, attention span, and free time. You are becoming more bitter, narrow minded, haughty, and old. Leave now and block this site. There is nothing here but slow, lonely suicide.
People do not have arguments here. Posters do not engage one another on key points, they nitpick with greentext and mock each other. Nobody is interested in the truth; people are battling for fleeting moments of superiority. Active commenters are loud jackasses who tumble into one internet fight after another, anxiously keeping ten tabs open to ensure they keep the last word in all of them. An insightful post is one in ten thousand, and no matter how hard you filter this place you are still searching for diamonds in a garbage dump.
This place is not making you happy. You are not having fun. You are not gathering stories to tell, learning, or growing as a person. Instead you chuckle every thirty minutes and are occasionally spurred to masturbation by libidinal posts or pictures. You are addicted to readily available information and pressure free social interaction. This place is slowly poisoning you with misogyny, narcissism, a false dichotomy surrounding normalfags, and insecurity.
I'm not telling you to b urself. I'm not telling you to go outside. I'm not even telling you to make friends. Just leave 4chan. Do anything else.

It's a little complicated because it's been going for a long while now, it steadily grew with me checking off a game here and there but I definitely bought a lot more than I checked off
Meaning I kind of can't tell at what point I had the most games sitting there
But this is the lowest it's been since the earliest days of my Steam account, I was at 30 not too long ago
This is basically me making a hard cut and promising myself not to buy any more shit
I still did buy more shit but I'm finishing stuff at a higher rate and I will not buy any more so help me god
I'm playing a lot of video games right now and I don't have shit to do until October, so I'm confident I will make a serious dent this time around
The hardest part is to keep going once you check a game off, playing through it is easy once you're in the flow but that break can be difficult
We are all going to make it
Recently graduated and was clearing my wii and 3DS backlogs. So far so good.

I enjoy playing Dota a lot, it's just I like other games too. For some reason I just keep thinking "I could be playing Dota right now" when I play something else these days. I thought it was getting better but my Dota friends all started tryharding again after TI so I feel this weird need to constantly practice and try to get better even though I have no real goal in mind.
Maybe I just have to keep doing it until Dota eventually dies like all multiplayer games.
>>387239567
Guns, Psy, and something else. I picked guns though.
>>387238695
Same reason why i quit LoL.
It was feeling more like a second job than a fun hobby.
I havent touched any online competitive games since.
>>387239606
That's nice to hear, thanks Anon
I'm not really sure what to play next, maybe I will go through New Vegas all the way but I'm also thinking about doing it alphabetically, that's how I got to Alan Wake after taking a break from Fallout
That way Beyond Good&Evil would be up next, and then Deus Ex
I haven't even started the games I preordered back in January
>>387239207
Feel free to go to reddit, no one gives a fuck if you stay or not. Just please go stay there if you go.
Most of the good times can't be appreciated in hindsight, they're little things that pop up and the sincerity and quality of posts by others that you won't find on other websites. Seriously no one is keeping you here nor do I want to, the fact that I explained that much was because I was bored, if you don't like /v/ overall and don't think there's anything to stay for at all, please leave. Unless you get paid to shill in which case go to your designated shilling thread.
>>387239768
I think so, I go to /mu/ only every few years but I heard something about it possibly happening
>>387240343
You're right. Reddit is better for me, and I'll stay there.
>>387239771
Watching TI really made me want to play Dota 2, but I have to stay strong for my backlog's sake
I played maybe 250 hours with my friends when it first came out, it helps that I'm not in contact with any of them anymore
>>387240103
After playing it on and off since the beta, on my own and, more importantly, with friends, I quit LoL a couple years back because I couldn't shake the feeling that the game was fucking terrible and nobody on the design team knew what the fuck they were doing
Having a friend you duo with while voice chatting will fucking forge you to them though, even if you get angry at each other the whole aspect of working on something and trying hard and improving and whatnot is sort of like a shittier version of if you were a tennis duo, that shit was good times
>>387240272
There's still like half a year left, you can make it
>>387240157
Alan wake is episodic, and honestly you should play it like once a week like TV show. Because if you binge it you won't like it all that much.
>>387240103
>>387240548
I forgot the actual thing I wanted to respond with
There's a couple shooting games I like playing on the side, those don't have ladders or any of that stuff so the "work" feeling doesn't come up and you still have multiplayer fun that's different from co-op
>>387239719
pls respond
>>387239719
>>387240780
I didn't know it was possible to be sub-1K, sorry to hear that. By escape do you mean stop playing or get good?
>>387240574
I enjoyed my time with it, binge watching TV shows is a thing people do as well
But I can see where you're coming from, if I finish all of my backlog I might go back through it on nightmare difficulty with the director's commentary and try the one episode per week thing
The game reminded me of Deadly Premonition a whole lot, I've never heard anyone compare the two but having played DP like four months back I felt like there were a lot of similarities
>>387227223
Not bad actually, last night I finally finished Styx Master of Shadows after months of prolonging it.
Today I'm taking a break and playing some online stuff since my internet just turned back on.
>>387227223
I just finished Megaman ZX after giving up on the lava section for a few months. ZX Advent seems lame if all you can do is turn into bosses, is it worth going through?
>>387230830
>it also feels good to cross them off the "list" if you will.
No, you just like to show some result for what you're doing. Just play the fucking game. Jesus christ.
>>387240936
That's probably because they're both heavily inspired by Twin Peaks.
Does a gtx 1050 work well with an old cpu?
my pc just died
>>387241232
Different guy here, I don't do it with games but I keep a log of shows/movies I've seen or plan to see. I've never showed it to anyone, I have no plans to show it to everyone, but it does give me pleasure to switch a thing from "backlog" to "completed".
>>387241018
How did you like Styx?
I had fun with it and think it's good, the way the knights just bash your head in mercilessly if they find you is nice and I liked the vertical stuff and all that
But the part where they send you through some of the old levels the other way was a meme, and when I got to the part where you have to "escort" the old man I left it sitting for a long while and then came back finish it
The actual escorting only takes like 5 minutes but it was a point in the game where I grew somewhat tired with it I guess
>>387241265
Alan Wake is way more inspired by Stephen King than it is Twin Peaks
I dont really consider it a backlog, more like a graveyard of rotting bodies I'll never touch again.
>>387241559
It's comfy and very Twin Peaksy
>>387237852
IT'S A FUCKING PASTA YOU NEWFAG, STOP TRYING TO ACT LIKE YOU AREN'T NEW
>>387241586
Ok wrong pic, I swear that picture had a context in the thread I created it for
I've finally gotten pretty good at playing games at the same rate I buy them. but now I have a huge backlog of pornography.
>>387241265
Yeah that's probably at the core of it, but I thought the similarities went further than just having Twin Peaks somewhere in the background in both cases
And I think you'll agree Deadly Premonition was a good bit heavier on the Twin Peaks influence
>>387240917
stop playing. It just feels like a time killer at this point.
>>387227223
Just bought Mega Man Zero Collection. Should keep me occupied for a while.
>Bayonetta
>Darksiders 2
>Unfinished save DS2 (i don't think i can bring myself to finish it)
>Until dawn
>Just Cause 3
I just unlocked WotW on Nioh, I think i'll do a few mission on the first three regions and leave it there untill the next DLC. Then I can focus on Darksiders 2 and after that maybe Bayonetta or Just Cause 3.
>tfw you get to a game in your backlog that's easy 70% achievements on the first time through and your average completion goes up
Thinking of perfecting FF7 but having flashbacks of grinding for master materia. Also working on Bastion, considering Bioshock Remastered since it's free and it got achievements now. I know, >bioshock infinite, but it was in the bundle with 1 and 2.
Sonic Adventure DX and Adventure 2 I'm having second thoughts since the fucking levels and cameras are so bad. It's just so frustrating that the cameras would try and fuck you over this much.
>Been unemployed since the end of May
>Play video games pretty much constantly when I'm not with friends
>Finishing 2-3 video games a week
It's going depressingly well. If it continue like this I might have nothing to play while unemployed.
>>387242250
That's fucking good
I don't do shit either but I'm not that fast with completing video games
I don't play video games. I really don't. My Steam Library may be 382 almost 400 games but my laptop with intel hd 3K is suffering hell even chokes on Path of Exile on DX9 I can only imagine it'll shit itself on Dota 2 too despite it supports intel 3000 and old i7 dual core 8 GB RAM it's going to take me a long time to stop being NEET and get a job and finally get damn desktop computer
>>387241232
I don't give out my URL. It's completely for personal reasons.
>>387230420

No longer anon.
>tfw can't immerse into single player games because I don't have a lot of free time due to wagecuck work
>tfw you can only play casual games without story and quick multiplayer games like BF, overwatch and TF2
Anyone else feel like this? How can I into single player games again?
>>387241413
It really is just a tiring game in general, it starts off strong but eventually you just start cursing the game for having such a shitty map and your objective indicator is FO3-tier useless in several cases. I did enjoy the Hitman elements though, sneezing into bowls of fruit to poison guards and dropping chandeliers is too fun
I still eventually plan to get Shards of Darkness, Styx is /ourgob/
I'm doing nice, my advice is do NOT buy games just because you heard they were good, buy games that really interest you and that you'll play right away
>>387243284
My problem with the Styx games are the coin collecting. I know I can redo missions later but fuck me if I dont scour the whole fucking map the first time every time trying to find them. Fuck my autism meme
>>387244051
Yeah this bugged me too, you can practically Dishonored your way through most levels but they put those coins in areas that force guard confrontation
>>387227223
Heroes of Might & Magic 3 Campaigns
Arcanum pretty much last dungeon remains
Divinity Original Sin 2
That's only games I'm planning on playing.
I have completed some games in the previous months, namely Sonic Adventure DX, Steamworld heist and Transistor. I'm currently playing through Divinity Original Sin, DSII: SotFS and DW8's Ambition mode (which is just grinding resources). I haven't actually played DSII for some time; kept trying to do the DLC's before I finish the first playthrough, but I kept dying so I just moved on to something else.
>It's actually coming along.

If you don't have a backlog you play, what, one game a month? I got plenty of rhythm, fightan, or multiplayer games I want to keep up with alongside an RPG or two.

current backlog at this moment in time, keep updating it in case I might muster the courage playing another. I have this autistic compulsion to try and beat every game I play, most of the games I have played there are all ones I have owned for years but never bothered coming back to. Currently playing deus ex revision for the first time in ages, really enjoying it once i got through the MJ12 labs.
>>387227223
I currently have around 45 games on my backlog. I-I'll comment again and give you the update in a few years OP...
>start game
>really enjoy it but get distracted by other stuff and leave it a few hours in
>pick it up again months/years later and have to start again
>get a little further than the first run then drop it again
>and again
I'll finish you one day, Ys: The Oath in Felghana.

I'm actually back on 4chan after about a few years of being gone. Back then I figured out that 4chan wasn't doing anything but taking up my free time. I'm actually not doing any better because I found other internet places to waste my time on. I literally put lots of parts on my life on hold because of my computer and internet addiction. At least one part is solved because I'm really not addicted to 4chan anymore. I'm just here out of curiosity really, and coincidentally stumbled into this thread.
I'll be leaving again. One step at a time I guess...
Welp, my backlog just got bigger

>>387256525
uninstall both borderlands, both dead islands, dead rising 3, life is strange, fear 3, and saints row 3.
that's eight games off your backlog already.
next boot up one of those lego games and balance it with short sessions of one of those arcade-y games, like spelunky or or something.
repeat this until october, at which point you should marathon fear 1, and it's expansions, and then lower your expectations a little bit for fear 2

My backlog is massive, I can't imagine finishing before 5-6 years. That combined with new games and it's tough. I am happy with what I've been able todo so far though
>>387258673
>>387258818
What did you think of Automata its currently my favourite game of 2017.
Too big to ever tackle in its entirety. At this point I'm on a repetition where I buy a new game and then drop it mid-way through. Nothing really wows me anymore and the only time I'm really having fun is when I'm playing online with my brother or friends who now live far away. Can't get into huge single player games anymore because I realize my completionist nature conflicts with my ability to stay interested. I can't just collect everything on a game anymore. It crushes me to progress past an area and not obtain all collectibles, I can never bring myself to just complete the damn game. I'm getting older.
>>387259130
I loved it, while it's not my favorite for 2017 it is definitely in the top 3. I was a fan of the original Nier and Drakengard, and I was really impressed with what Taro could do with a development team who can actually make a game with good gameplay. I hope he makes more and doesn't end his career early, I think he has a lot of potential
>>387260031
Curious to ask what are the other two games you enjoyed for 2017? I kept thinking about the game days after finishing it. Looking forward to doing another playthrough of it sometime in December.
>>387236265
I had trouble with Nocturne because the main menu music made me feel so comfy I just sat on it all day
>bought DmC: Definitive Edition, Revelations 2, Shadow of Mordor, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Nioh a month ago
>played DmC for two hours, Mordor for 10 or so, haven't played Revelations 2 or Tomb Raider, played Nioh for 20 hours
>instead finished Dark Souls 3 NG+ and going through Bloodborne DLC on NG++
>bought Prey yesterday and played for 30 minutes
G-going fine, guys.
>>387227223
I've given up over the past couple of months, the only video-game that I still have the motivation to play is 100% Orange Juice and that is only because I do not have to concentrate and can watch a film on the side. I suppose I'm pushing past the age of enjoying video-games, it sucks though it'd seem there's no two ways about it. A shame really, I'd rather hoped I'd play Resident Evil IV and Shadow Complex, never mind the Mother series and an onslaught of shmups.

Breath of the Wild and Persona 5. I'm a bit biased about Persona since the series has my GOAT, but even then I couldn't tell you if it's better than Breath of the Wild or not. Nier Automata, in comparison to such huge games with history/financial expectations, is really impressive. I might wait a bit to replay since there's that rumor that Automata will get more DLC, here's hoping

>there's that rumor that Automata will get more DLC

Why is it that the fun you have while playing a game decreases exponentially?
Stage 1
>First 1-8 hours of a game and maybe even longer, depending how long you can play without going to bed
>everything is new and exciting, you try to be the best and master the game. You get acquainted with controls, lore, etc... you have fun
Stage 2:
>This is now the hard stage. The hardest thing is simply to turn the game on. But even if you do so the magic from stage 1 is gone. You rarely discover something new and everything became a routine. The game feels like work now.
Stage 3
>You are now about 50% into the game. You know that the second half will introduce only few interesting stuff. You mastered the game to 90% but you have to keep doing the same thing over and over to get to the end and it gets harder. You drop the game, because it feels like a chore. You want something new and fresh.
Often I drop it in Stage 2 and start another one just to experience the magical 1st stage of a new game.
Does someone know the feel? Perhaps the answer is to not binge too much in the first half and play only 1 hour of it every day?
>>387250716
I was going to say at least the concept of MMOs are good so it's okay to try to find a good one, but FFXIV is shit and I imagine you probably played WoW, so you're part of the problem if so.
>>387241648
I don't browse /s4s/ because I'm not a fucking newfag and those were the most cancerous times, a board that literally welcomes redditfags is a trash board and associating with anything that came from it is shit and you're shit for doing so.
Not knowing about shit that hapened after the reddit-raid is common for anyone who mainily left when reddit joined, as I did. NeoGAF, Gaia, etc at least they tried to blend in, reddit was just fucking garbage and they try to use itas just an extension of their site for m-muh points
>>387254376
Almost all of my backlog is shit I emulate, only reason it's not complet is because my PSP-2000 broke years ago and geting it fixed was a pain, then Iwiped my MS-DS so I'd have to start from scratch to get back where I was.,
Name me one emulation handheld as good as the PSP, I'll wait.
>>387253885
Good on you man, I'm in a similar boat, I came back because I picked up an MMO so Ivisit the general, which in turn led to me periodically clicking /v/ on a slow day again. I still waste too much time on the internet, but at least a lot of it isn't on /v/ anymore.
>>387260860
Mass Effect will leave you sad. Shit game that was overhyped.
Well, rather, ME 1 was good but ME2 was meme shit and everyone should have seen it a mile away but unfortunately at that point other boards were already so far into /v/ that they drowned out the people calling it shit for what it changed, ME3 was just a lost cause overall but you will still find people defending that sack of shit. Nothing should have to be said for the newer game.
Go with Bioshock 2 or Thief 2.

How? There aren't enough good games to form one. Have you literally just started playing games and haven't played any of the 10-20 games that are actually worth playing? Or do you just have bad taste like the majority of people who play video games and are so dumb you mindlessly buy/collect trash that catches your eye on steam?
