But what's absolute fucking bullshit is MCH/BRD, and the damage they output despite the fact they get to attack instantly from range. You look at the scoreboard at the end of the match and for damage/kills the top 10 are pretty much always physical-ranged DPS. Feels like I have to work 10x harder for fraction of the reward.

To be fair, the PVP in 3.1 was literally nothing but balance/bug fixes. No new gamemode or map. Diadem was clearly rushed as it had no clear objective and the rewards were distributed through retarded means (which party did the most damage to the NM which means that all DPS groups were common and SMNs were not allowed because DoT limit on target = no damage). LoV flopped for obvious reasons, too obscure and difficult like a MOBA and not enough rewards. The only real additions of 3.1 was Thordan EX, Void Ark, the 2 expert dungeons, and the short MSQ. No one really gave a shit about vanu vanu tribe other than for the sundrop dance.

What we know about 4.1 so far is that it will have Shinryu Extreme, Return to Ivalice raid, a new PVP map/gamemode, 1 expert dungeon, the Eureka zone plus the new Stormblood relic gear which also ties into the zone, Shirogane housing, and other unannounced stuff like specific job changes for PvE and QoL changes.

Do you need to do that to enjoy the game? I tried retail WoW earlier this year out of sheer boredom and just felt perpetually behind everyone. Materia 6 are easily obtainable for free and can be sold for anywhere from 30-80k a pop depending on your server.

I basically don't raid since I have a job and many other games to play. I find the main story and basic gameplay to be fun enough to keep me going quite happily. Since the game is almost 100% PvE, I find little need to be on the absolute cutting edge compared to other players. I guess some of the higher-tier gear can look decent maybe.

If you're into making huge amounts of money, there are ways to do so as a crafter. Since one character can basically do every job at once, you can have one character to quest and raid with while still being your crafter/gatherer. Overall I would say that the game has plenty of things to keep you occupied, and enough of an economy for you to find your niche. Also catgirls.

Which is all well and good when your in the zerg rush, everywhere else - like when two zerg rushes hit a front - it's worth fuck all unless you pick off a straggler and managed to shukuchi away without getting cc blitzed to death.

That's literally it's only use now, hit and run then coming back 5+ seconds later. So the moment you probably needed it is long gone, and now you have to hope a new chance pops up - except now we have only 15 seconds of hide time to do it.

already figured out it's basically required for ninja to function for longer then 10 seconds without burning out

Ninja is basically only good for kill securing except their kit is rather self defeating in that purpose. Though one ok tactic I found was using the 'pls dont stun me silly boys' action + shukuchi in, raiton the poor asshole whose health is low, assassinate, shukuchi the fuck out.
