For me it's the lack of interesting class feats. DnD rulesets make leveling feel like opening a box of goodies. Leveling in PoE is like "wow I get... +10 accuracy and some HP"

At the end game you get a few but by that time the enemy has his own game winning spells and if he manages to cast it you're fucked, good luck trying to focus fire a druid ogre though

I noticed I now do this in BG2 after playing lots of Pillars of Eternity that has limited camping supplies. Two chances to rest before you run out of supplies really makes you think the economy of your actions. Wish there were less of said supplies to loot though and similar mechanic for Infinity Engine games.

Blade because they can both hit in melee and get insane AC or just ignore hits with defensive spin and mirror image/ironskin
Sorcerers are great since you don't have to carefully memorize spells

I tried a monk once and I can't see why some people love them, their magic resistance is good but a paladin or thief multiclass can use carsomyr for 50% magic resistance and a lot more damage since they can be hasted unlike the monk

I guess it depends on how you define crpg. It's likely a mistake but whenever I think of crpg I think of isometric. Whereas dungeon crawler comes into mind for games like m&m and wizardry, which I enjoy.

Mainly bored. The combat isn't particularly engaging and the stories haven't hooked me. BG1 is probably the one I played the most at this point. It just felt like the battles were a steamroll one way or another. Either I had no problem or I got completely wiped out. It got to the point where I was only playing the game because I heard the series was good, not because I wanted to play. I've tried playing again a few times and it just ends up the same. It's probably a huge problem that my attempts have been so spread out and I end up starting over because I've forgotten what happened, and that means I just play the same slow segments each time.

You could skip bg1 and give the sequel a try, its start a lot stronger since you' don't start as a lvl1 mook and you have a lot of spell options since the start
You're right about steamrolling or geting raped though, most of the game is like that since once you start getting an edge on an encounter you can auto attack to victory

I don't bother with the charisma ring because it's a fucking dump stat and not worth the slo it takes up. It saves money but who cares when you're doing the quests for xp, not gold.

I go get a potion of thievery, then steal the regen ring and Boomerang, then go get Mazzy and Viconia before they level up to far. Viconia needs the guaranteed hp and Mazzy needs to stop taking shitsword proficiency. I'd use Daystar next to get Kangaxx down, but it's too much cheese even for me..
