YOu did not RPG it, you literally because Shepard 100%, assumed his role and your only freedom was to fight however you wanted hence the class selection.

You just rushed trough the story and cheered at the fact that everything was linear designed so you had time to pay attention to environment and every bit of story - literally spending time inside rooms to find more, listen to more, discover more.

It's simply an action game, gated behind a longer story.

By your description then all the early dragon quest and final fantasy games don't count as RPG either. Being able to customize your character isn't a necessary prerequisite of RPG, neither are non-linear levels

People only remember things like the community and the social aspect from Vanilla. People forget that the gameplay was shit with things like only one spec viable per class (If you had a heal specc you were forced into that role), one button rotations and the horrible itemization.

I still like ME. Yeah it's janky but I don't care. It's the only ME I've actually enjoyed replaying.

Also I tried playing it with a pad for the first time recently, I finally understand the hatred for the mako.

If you're talking about weapon proficiency (It's hard to tell, but I'm assuming it's because you're ESOL) it's certainly better than having weapon power based on pickups like ME2.

Leveling your lockpicking/thievery skill to pick higher level locks is pretty standard fare for an RPG, I don't think anyone without autism has ever had a problem with that mechanic.

bland cover shooter TPS action? I can't even fathom the kind of mong that would think this way.

I love Mass Effect so much. I got it on release and really didn't like it because my Xbox wasn't hooked to an HD TV and the gameplay was too slow for ADHD me but gave it a try again in late 2009 and fell for it hard. The only RPG to make me feel that way since is The Witcher 3.
