The original talent that developed Sonic have been long gone since the 90s and SEGA haven't been able to recreate those physics to run on anything other than a Mega Drive since then. It's a simple matter of making a good game. If a game is good, chances are I'll buy it. I've got a ton of games in my library that I've pirated first and bought once I found I enjoyed it and it worked without any major problems. Shit ports and awful DRM practices have made me even more wary of just pre-ordering or buying at release because previously I had no recourse for shitty releases before Steam added refunds. Now I do, but refunds aren't technically to be used as a demo feature, and most games I've been interested in has no demos. It just works out that piracy is my best bet in making a good purchase, since in most cases I can't guarantee the game running well or at all before purchasing it, let alone the game being good itself. So make the refund option an actual demo-thing or make games have demos as standard and I might change my ways not out of necessity but convenience.
