We don't know, but we do know it's adding extra shit and changing things to some degree, so if it's just an updated re-release like Emerald or Platinum you won't be going through the same thing three months later.

Though it's fairly likely they'll mix it up a ton, since apparently the trials were literally added at the last moment in debug and Gyms were cut.

Personally I could tolerate that but I hated how the majority of the game world feels like a series of hallways. Ula'ula is the worst about it, like the dev team's only experience with that island of Hawaii was a brief bus tour so the in-game map is literally just the path it took.

No fixing that in USUM with the time they've had, but I'm hoping it at least adds some cool new shit.

I don't really care about the difficulty in these games, when I replay them I just keep trying to use Pokemon and other variables I haven't used before. When I replayed Alpha Sapphire recently, I used Dustox, Pidgeot, and Banette which I all haven't used before. So far in my Leaf Green replay I'm using Parasect, and plan to use Slowbro and Dodrio.

The only "self-challenge" I do is I only ever use regular Poke Balls to catch everything, but that's just OCD creeping in.

Gen VI is probably the smoothest when it comes to actual speed and controls despite the framerate issues, that's its biggest redeeming factor. VII sadly fucks up the controls, there's a delay to everything. It's most noticeable sorting your party with the touch screen.

And while I think Gen IV is plenty tolerable, Platinum and HGSS really aren't that much faster than DP outside of Surf speed and the EXP bar when gaining large amounts. If you have game-ruining problems with DP, I really can't see the other two suddenly being "not slow".
