Brigador's good but it really needs a way to save in between missions in freelance mode, especially for the later ones. Trying to 100% 11+ districts is way too much to do in one sitting.

Also Sparrow best mech. Anyone who says otherwise is probably a corvid faggot who pilots shit scrap metal mechs.

They actually fixed the shitty controls in uparmored edition so it's not a complete pain in the ass to control your vehicle. Basically standard WASD controls for moving up, down, left, right with keys to recenter your torso/legs instead of the whole W to move forward, D to reverse, etc. The only vehicle I can think of that's a bitch to control is the kilgore and that's only because for whatever reason the devs gave it a ridiculously slow reverse speed for whatever reason but that's easily fixed with the debug menu they recently added

Its getting close to a year since MechWarrior 5 was announced. Is there any hope to be had friendos?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUdUP4WobSU&t=12s

I feel like I am trapped in a hell of no good mech games. Not even Armored Core to play or look forward to. Life is suffering.
>>
>>387190339
Probably because legged mechs have rotating upper body. Agravs turn the game into a twin stick shooter.
>>
>>387189613
Eh, Johnny Five Aces is kind of a shitty example of the lore due to how many fucking awful typos are in his backstory. The lore for the loyalist vehicles is pretty good though. I really like the military culture surrounding the different vehicles. Part of the reason I like the Sparrow's lore so much is because the pilots sound so fucking awesome.

>Only the very best mech games are allowed in this thread.
Then this thread should have consisted of nothing but MWO, because no other game comes even close when it comes to sheer complexity of core mechanics and available features.

>b-but it's too hard!
>b-but it doesn't have a tutorial!
>b-but I get completely destroyed constantly by people with shitloads of game experience!
Git gud, shitter. The mechanics are the most complex out of any and all existing mech games, dwarfing even those of MW3. If you can't win any matches by yourself and carry the team (you shouldn't be able to), stick with some heavier mech teammate at the beginning of a match and watch his six, play as the dedicated battle buddy of more competent players for a while until you acquire competence yourself.

Baldr Heart, it's the latest one. Upgrade system is tied to the girls you develop a relationship with, which makes the "dating" part meaningful to the gameplay and isn't just a means to drive the story routes forward.
Also I'm not dependent on english translations
>>
>>387191301
>Every part of the game is a micro transaction
That don't convey any advatage and, in some cases, actually hinder you, because some of the "golden" mechs are shittier than their free counterarts. MWO is anything but p2w, it's pay to not grind.

But the best mech was already posted >>387187140

The fucking war crimes mobile was stupid satisfying to use. The feeling of power using it to just wreck everything with extreme prejudice was amazing.

However the sniper tank with the rail cannon gets a close second. The mission where you gotta take it through the suburbs that have patrolling forces was fantastic. Snipe through like 4 blocks and 8 houses to take out a couple mechs and watching everything go to hell while you're invisible on the other side of the map, going to reposition and take them out as they go mad looking for you was the fucking best.
Of course if you were found by anyone you were fucked cause you were a rail cannon with treads and nothing more.
>>
>>387191762

Fingers crossed then. Would be cool to have career mode. Manage and grow a whole merc outfit. Get mad dosh. Get mad salvage. Hot drop assault mechs all day ery day.

"The none of you will ever play this" is because none of them will ever have the initiative to look for this game by themselves without getting spoon-fed

Pic is of loadout customization and testing. You can see weapons and techniques are tied to girls you've built a relationship with
>>
>>387191013
Meh overall. Seems like the player population is on a steep decline. Last time I played it often took five minutes or longer to get into a match and sometimes I outright couldn't get into matches with certain weight classes. As for the gameplay itself, mechs are still obscenely expensive and unless you outright buy them it's probably gonna take a long time before you can actually get one that isn't shit, even with boosters. Matches usually go one of two ways. Either you get lucky and end up on a team with competent players who know what they're doing and win or you get stuck on a team with a bunch of stupid fucks who immediately spread out and try to rush the enemy and get themselves killed. I had some occasional cool matches that really came down to the wire (one time it was just me and two enemies left standing, all three of us in really bad shape and I managed to get lucky and catch them separated and pick them off one at a time which was awesome) but usually it's the former. Part of me wants to jump back in and enjoy the satisfaction of playing a missile guiding, ankle biting arctic cheetah again or a SSRM Vulture Troll. but then another part of me remembers the constant grinding.
It would probably make the game more tolerable if they implemented shit like login rewards or maybe daily objectives to earn bonus cash or maybe even weapons. Shit, even Warframe got that part right.

>>387192148

Also pretty much this. When the Kodiak was under preorder or whatever the fuck you call it that gave people who bought it early access to it I generally considered them free kills for the most part because the people playing them usually sucked dick which made it pretty easy to just circle them in a light mech and tear away at their rear hull while they twisted and turned like a fucking fat guy trying to scratch a bad itch on his back he can't reach

Well the visuals help me out alot and voice-acting gives me a good idea of what's going on. I'm not saying I don't understand any of it, but I've picked up enough over the years to follow along. The story typically gets heavier and more serious the deeper you go into the routes as you unlock them.
I am still disappointed they changed the long-serving Baldr artist for a new one that I think definitely isn't as good.

>>387195553
There's themes that carry over from the games, but they don't have a singular storyline. I don't recall 1 and 2 ever even having english translations. I can tell you 3's battle system is less complex though, and is still a great entry point. There's more RPG-like features in 3, while 4 is just pure strategy with careful though in how you link pilots together.

You're talking about the one where they want you to wreck the bars that are hangouts for off-duty military personnel.

That mission was so much fun.
I went around in the big mech with dual chain guns just casually mowing down civvies. By the end I'd let the run for a bit while lining up a perfect single shot to take them out from fulllscreen, partially for style and partially cause I was running low on ammo from depopulating a city district.

Super satisfying. Killed every single person in that place, took like 20m.

Mecha is cool when it takes more realistic and practical approaches to design, which in all honesty seems a bit more practical than Battle Tech's mechs (Like there's not a whole lot of practical uses for something that handles like an extremely clunky tank and tend to have max speeds around 74 mph or slower.

Problem is that japs tend to prefer the really stupid designs like the overly colorful Power Ranger looking mechas or the retarded Big O mecha.
The Zaku's one of the few practical ones I can think of

Mechs could work - ignoring standing and all that - if armor superceded development of weapons to the point that only upscaled weapons could chunk through them. I like battletech designs for some thought into practicality and their unique silhouettes while looking like armored war machines instead of glass dolls.

That said any mech that has a mech sized gun to hold in their hand is fundamentally retarded.

Not necessarily. It makes switching load outs on the fly a lot quicker and simpler than having to have everything swapped out with heavy machinery in a hangar. The pilot just needs to pick up a different weapon. If needed, it also allows the pilots to free up both hands for doing shit like heavy lifting or opening shit that normal infantry wouldn't be able to.

Also if you're gonna shit on that you might as well shit on Battletech for having mechs like the axeman.

As opposed to having fixed hard points that can only house certain types of weapons and requiring a trip to a hangar to spend a couple of hours using heavy machinery to detach the weapons and replace them with different ones?

I'd say being able to do something like having a mobile armory hauling a variety of guns and being able to just drop the weapon one's carrying and pick up a different one would be a lot more practical.
The flexibility in terms of arm movement and possibly the mech's ability to absorb recoil could allow for some interesting tactics in combat. A camera mounted to the gun that provides a feed to the pilot's HUD could allow them to accurately blind fire around corners or over cover. Granted you can sort of do that MWO and MWL with mech LRMs but it requires a clear trajectory for the missiles as well as a scout to paint the target.

Eh, Mechwarrior 4 did limit the amount of customization you could do for mechs with the hard point system. It's been a long time since I played Mechwarrior 2 but I think your options for customization were almost limitless. Like you could even put guns on your mech's legs if you wanted to (and why not? If you lost a leg you were dead anyway). In Mechwarrior 4 you were limited to putting weapons on hard points and on top of that, they had to match the hardpoint and they couldn't exceed the size of the hard points.
Still I like MW4 Mercs for continuing what MW2 Mercs did, as in introducing a fucking insane amount of mechs to play as.

It's the best example of Stockholm Syndrome. Everything is just there and should be hateable but it's just fun enough to keep playing it. Hunting down mechs is fun. Stompy clunky big ass robots shooting big ass bullets and explosions fun. But yet when the match is done you feel empty inside because you better like what you've just done because there's no much else going on there.

I'm on the fence because, well let's face it. Hairbrained has a really mixed record. Shadow Run Returns sucked and felt more like a demo than an actual game and Necropolis sucked and felt like an early access Dark Souls clone with really lack luster combat with really no feedback but Dragon Fall and Hong Kong were great. So they've kind of got a 50% success rate right now I'd say. If it sucks though, hey maybe they'll go the route of Shadowrun and give us a couple of great standalone expansions

My fingers are crossed.

you do realise they're supposed to be bad right?

hundreds of years of the grinding attrition of the succession wars means that the proper ones we see in the mechwarrior games that look similar to aircrew helmets are lostech for much of the setting.

the old chunky ass neurohelmets are the original designs and test helmets, for training and diagnostic purposes.

just like the only reason IS mech can even 'sense' each other is because they're actually in training mode because of the diagnostic computer, and having proper tech be lostech.

battletech is a setting that's resulted from a continuing series of planetary and system wide apocalypses of varying kinds happening repeatedly to everyone

Quick question: Read somewhere that the MW battlemechs are roughly humanoid- like to help the pilot sync his body with the big ass robot, so that's why they all have the head cockpit or so and the chicken leg ones need special training to get used to them.

Also that's why the 4 legged ones need at least 2 pilots.

Yes, in the Battletech universe some of the models you see are either farmer mechs repurposed or family heirlooms passed along the bloodline like an armor and such.

Others like the Hunchback are like the AK 47 of the future and were produced in masse and there's plenty to keep making it. Other mechs don't even have a cooling system IN THE COCKPIT like the fancier ones, i mean, no air conditioner of sorts, and the myomers get hot as fuck when moving around and firing. That's why many mechwarriors use little to no clothing inside them; a perfect excuse to draw skimpy female mechwarriors or almost nude.

I know, I have a HBK-4G with 25 or so AC20 shots and go hunting anything in sight. The HBK is such a nice looking mech with such an awesome versatility, decent armor, speed and firepower when tuned to your tastes and hits like a fucking truck. I love cutting the arms of heavies clean with 2-3 well placed shots and destroying little lights with an oversized weapon that belongs in Assaults.

I mean, MWO IS FUN. Not even the haters can deny it, because if they didn't knew it they would have stopped playing it.
>>
>>387210193
as soon as they could reclaim any lostech , yeah pretty much.

like, comguards never lost the proper helmets or cooling suits because they sat on their asses keeping out of all the fighting jewing it up and profiterring off all the houses misery, whilst keeping their stranglehold monopoly over ftl comms.

and the rest of the is only slowly got the proper helmet back and cooling suits back, after that guy in the books leaves the comguards post tukkayyid and flogs of his spares suits and helmets at solaris. letting them reverse engineer them. eventually.

>>387210356
There's advanced tactics. If you have people on your team that don't suck, you turn off your ECM when sneaking not to give away the fact with the scrambling of their radar that you are nearby and have the LRMboats shoot at the mech. It will get cockpit shake and its armor reports will begin to light up and that's when you sync it up with a backshot. As a result the mech doesn't even notice you are eating its back until it's too late. 1400 damage in ACH represent.
>>
>>387210736
nah, elite house military gets pretty decent tech, it just the vast majority are forced to use whatever tech they can get heir grimy hands on.

but yeah, for a long time the best gear was comguards. only after tukkayyid and the mass salvage of dead clam tech did IS start un-sucking in general, expecially since Wolf's draggons essentialy became a massive mech refitting / overhauling firm in addition to the merc stuff. and modernised ( i.e reinstalled some of the lostech stuff they were always supposed to have) on house forces mechs, for massive jewy profits of course.

>>387210965
is does too though. much of the IS inbred nobles etc dislike the lostech etc because ''this ain't like my gran pappies single heat sink energy boats!''
>>
>>387210193
If by Oldtech you mean AI based anything then YES that's magnum heretical shit.

In 40k is not the official Imperium stance to reject old technology, but there's certain taboos and, of course, they don't fucking know how it worked. Unless it's about using actual AIs because the Terminator apocalypse did happen in the 40k universe but mankind stopped the machines. So only repurposed brains, servitors and navigator psykers are used.

Its not about it being a pissing contest, it's about For Answer being the easiest/simplest games in the series. The reason people loved the old generation of Armored Core so much is that it required skill and planning. In For Answer you can beat pretty much everything by whacking it with a laser blade a few times. Sure its still a fun game, but its so simplified in comparison that its amusing when people claim its one of the most amazing mech games ever while missing out on the greatest aspects of the series.

They didn't fix anything, they made Absolute the default scheme. It was always there (well, maybe not in Early Access, I don't know). It's also objectively inferior to Relative.

They also put the default speed at 80% because of general complaints about difficulty and added a bunch of pretty, but incredibly boring tutorials. Now people are complaining the game is too easy and boring.

It's not great. It's a lazy port and the translation is pretty horrendous. However, if you want a game that digests missions in to chunks and plays like a budget diablo, the dig in.

Really, if you play one mission that should let you know what the game is like enough to make a decision. I'm enjoying it, but I mostly have shitty taste.

I've never used really human plus but going melee was pretty viable depending on the situation and how you managed your weight. In the first few games games where you couldn't equip any left handed weapons other than flamethrowers, having a blade became a very useful thing. Using the moonlight at the right time could fuck people up and using a high heat blade good give you nice damage over time.

>>
>>387225949
What do you think is the biggest hurdle in having them combat ready? I think our current tech could have small 'Iron Man' style mech suits could be possible, main advantage being vastly increaded weapon stability/accuracy and more protection from small arms fire for the pilot.

Protection/weight ratio

I am sure Military Complex has the needed systems for stability and even mobility under wraps.

Powersuits are probably more viable and will be shown to public when it will be right

Cost can be overlooked in a way, America spends billions on weapons R&D if they feel it can make an advantageous breakthrough. Power requirements though I can agree with. Traditional fuel engines would be too heavy and the fuel itself would be a liability. Maybe if we can create a stable fuel source that only liberates it's energy under certain conditions so that a random bullet or explosion nearby won't ignite the tank.

Ironically the one thing that a contemporary powered suit would be good at is would be brushing off unguided warheads like RPGs, since shrapnel and over-pressure would do nothing to them and scoring a direct hit would be nearly impossible.

Real mechs are either walking tanks with multiple weapons systems, realistic radar, heat management etc. and the general feeling is that you're driving a vehicle that fits somewhere between a tank and an attack chopper on legs.

OR

They're sonic-fast anime mecha with ski feet, flight, shields, missile swarms, melee weapons etc. and the general feeling is that you're flying something that fits between a jet fighter and a DBZ character.

Titans fall into a fun deadzone where you just feel like you're playing oversized FPS character with a few bland anime moves halfheartedly thrown in. Massive waste of potential.

I always feel sad when I come into these threads and usually find people bickering about how certain mechs are "gay" or "unrealistic". Let's be united in our love for giant destructive war machines. If we don't form a unified front, we're just inviting the visual novels and cinematic experiences to take over the industry. Unless you want to weather another decade long tsunami of Uncharted and Call of Duty, let's remember that all mechs deserve love.
>>
>>387229017
A mech suit based on contemporary tech would have to be powered by hydraulics, since batteries aren't powerful enough to be viable yet.
So if you suit took a penetrating shot, even if you didn't get hit, you would have to worry about getting sprayed with hydraulic fluid, (which is arguably more deadly than a bullet wound) or even better, getting hydraulic fluid sprayed into a bullet wound, or your face or drowning in the stuff.
It would literally be a total death trap unless the enemy didn't have weapons capable of defeating the armor.

I love this game but I wish the mp mechs had a personality like bt did. I guess you could write or imagine one but it's kinda sad how little they talk or help. More of a nitpick but I'd be nice if they reworked the personality cores from the first one

My current favorite loadout is the Rounder with the Zeus, Scimitar, and active camo for sneaky ambushing and sniping. I fucking love the scimitar.

If not that, the Zollig with twin Banshees and smoke is good, simple fun. Or the Joust with double discos.
