redpill me on vega. I bought a 980 like three years ago and it's been working great ever since, and it still runs everything 1440p 60fps or more. Why does anyone need these new meme cards, especially in an age where all graphics cards have inflated prices thanks to cryptocurrency miners?

Okay for a start Vega is actually shit for crypto. Second it's got some excellent technology and will almost certainly age well.

Vega 64 looks like a bad buy compared to the 1080 because of the insane power consumption but the 56 might actually be worth buying over the 1070 because right now it's just about equal and even though it's a lot less power efficient it's still probably fine as long as you have a non-shit PSU. It depends on price really. If you can get a 56 cheaper than a 1070 I would go for it because it will probably mature better.

Vega benchmarks also look very good for very high resolution, so if you're running 1440 or 4k it's probably worth it. I have a 1440p 144Hz monitor and I like consistent framerates so I need a pretty good GPU and am considering Vega.

That said if you just want the absolute best video card right now, nothing even comes close to beating the 1080ti, it's just expensive.

As a Fury owner, Vega looks like a decent upgrade (Fury still draws more power), but not right now.
In a few months, the 3rd party cards should be out with higher clocks and more attainable prices.
