Earthbound wasn't that good to begin with, the characters were flat and the combat system added nothing new. But at least mother 3 had much better characters and it added something new to make the combat system better and more unique. Too bad Nintendo sucks dick and won't give it a global release.

The crafting, the variety of arms, shields and armor, the magic, the types of damage, the affinities each weapon could get depending of what types of enemies you killed with them, several tiers of crafting materials for armor and weapons that could be improved or degraded through combination (Those Hagane and Damascus), aiming at certain parts of your opponent for different damage...
It's true that the timed attacks, the RISK and stoping before commencing your actions were frustrating at times, but it was a somewhat complex system that could be understood with the in-game manual.

The eye color has to do with the reason for suicide, for example the green eyes are pushing a salaryman out of the window at his work, while the father is promising his son a game boy when he doesn't have the money for it. Green eyes mean economic reasons.
