A dualshock gives you 25 buttons (counting four directions on each analogue). By comparison, I'd say that if you're keeping one hand on the mouse and one hand on the keyboard at all times, you have easy access to about 18~ buttons on m+k (counting four directions for the mouse for fairness's sake) before your left hand starts getting cramps, and trying to hold a button down while pushing other buttons is a pain, say, holding L1 and R2, moving both analogue sticks, and pressing square. Those extra 2-3 conveniently placed buttons for a thumb that would otherwise be doing nothing make a big difference, especially for things like using a scope or sprinting while firing. This is before you take into account the greatly improved accuracy of the mouse.

Your mouse may not be broken, just dirty. Disassemble it and clean the mouse wheel's gear with alcohol. Not the actual wheel, but you'll see a gear attached to a stick that attaches to the wheel. Alcohol dries quick, but give it about 15 minutes before putting it back together. I cleaned it with a toothbrush.
