I can barely remember the villains in this game and I played through the story 3 times. There was that one FBI faggot in the polo shirts, and that one retired guy who had the house on the hills. The final mission was the worst of all, when they just spontaneously decided to go and murder every character who ever inconvenienced them in any way within an hour.

The 3 protagonists was an unnecessary gimmick, but it had potential. Franklin's story stops entirely once he gets the beverly hills safehouse, and Trevor was 2 dimensional as fuck. GTAV was a great game but what really brought it down was the focus on online, we never got any good story DLC like GTAIV did, instead we got cars and guns, which was alright since they were free but I would've happily paid for a separate story DLC like Gay Tony.

Everything. The game doesn't have any redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's the epitome of quantity of quality design. Everything is huge, but empty. Balance is garbage, everyone dies from a few shots. Because of this every mission consists of you shooting a hundred enemies, which is extremely repetitive. All of them drop guns, and you don't lose ammo when dying, so you have an entire arsenal 2 hours in the game, making shops and money obsolete mechanic. Story is dogshit, 3 characters are developed worse than 1 in the previous games, all of them completely lack motivation to do anything they do, making it impossible to relate to them.

At least we got the good old fooling around the city, driving and shooting part, right? Wrong. Cop AI is cheating. Car physics got casualized. Vehicle deformation is almost nonexistent and car hp is approx 3 times higher than in previous games. Pedestrians all have 1 hp and die from anything that pokes them.

The game is cancerous shitfest which ruined every single good thing GTA had. Driving, shooting, AI, story, characters, balance, level design, everything is trash. The only thing which may give you some pleasure are graphics, but even on Ultra in the PC version it's still console potato with atrocious filters which can't be turned off, especially since modding is illegal now. GTA V to the GTA franchise, is the same as Skyrim to Elder Scrolls franchise. A vile cashgrab for scum of the earth.

It feels like they've taken way too long to make this game, which was supposed to release as a last hurrah for the old console generation.

They didn't finish in time, hence why we're left with so much assets in the world that feel like there might've been an idea behind, that just didn't get implemented. Not only talking about heists, but things like the Casino and loads of other stuff that is there in the world, but has absolutely no purpose.
So they've decided to release the game early, and work on a finished version for the new consoles, which led to other problems immediately - I'll get to that in a second, because then online and it's massive success happened.
Apart from the backlash that would happen, if it would be blatantly clear that GTA V for PC and the current gen is a finished version of the game with all features compared to the old gen version, it became apparent that it would be financially more logical to basically stop further development and to just implement new reasons for people to spend money online. The team was downsized, because a new car just doesn't need as much work as a new mechanic in the game, and that's where we've ended up.

The big question boils down to - since they have loads of money now, will they be able to finish GTA VI in the way they want to, with microtransactions, but as a complete game, or will they downsize everything, because it doesn't matter to them, as long as the microtransactions keep coming in?

I had less fun than in San Andrews, but after the disappointment that was GTA IV...
It is just very very impressive to just go about in the environment. A masterpiece in terms of world building. I liked the three characters, also.
GPS are realistic, but since IV they kinda ruin the sense of exploration.

The villains sucked so much in V. What made Tennpenny great in SA was that he was there through the whole story, and fucked with you the whole time. It made killing him in the end actually fucking mean something. Devin Weston isn't even introduced until the game is more than half over, and his only motivation is "I like money."

This. This shit right here. This is exactly the problem with GTA V, hell, the industry as a whole for that matter. All of that damn fun factor is stripped away from games and they make them more realistic and grounded. However, they seem to find realistic synonymous with boring. Gunplay is so damn dull I have only used one weapon for most of GTA V, including Online, The city is so big but so damn lifeless and dessert is useless, the characters could've been replaced with wood and they would provide the same experience. Hell, the NPCs in GTA SA, have more personality than the entire cast of GTA V.

I used my billionaire singleplayer save with autosave off to try buying DLC cars to mess around in, to decide whether I actually wanted to buy them.

I think the 3 character system for me ruined it. It was hard to get immersed in the story or engaged to the characters when all you had were some pretty poorly written characters.

Not to mention the over abundance of pop culture references etc. Trevor legit made me cringe most of the time.

I know exactly what fucking happened. They listened to /v/.

During GTA V's development, there was a big backlash against GTA IV for not being fun enough. Car handling was "too realistic." The storyline was too serious. Saints Row 2 garnered a ton of praise for being "what GTA IV should have been" (and managed to squeeze out two more sequels + a bunch of DLC before GTA V came out). There's too much to do in GTA IV; it's all boring minigames. Too much focus on TECHNOLOGY, not enough """Gameplay.""" No sense of humour any more.

So GTA V is what you get. And surprise surprise at all the posts in this thread longing for the days of GTA IV.

I was pretty satisfied with it, but most people here did not like the storytelling method which V adopted, which was to balance out the characterization between the main story and the side content, instead of just leaving it all in the main story like the 3D GTAs. You can tell this was the philosophy because there are at least two extra hours of dialogue between the characters during the hangouts, and considering how long each cutscene is, it's quite a lot of extra content.

I rather liked it, not only did it seem like it gave a greater purpose to the open world, as the player hunts down the characterization in the side activities, but also, it felt truer to life; you're not going to get to know your friends and how they are as people just when shit goes down, and the whole main story was just "shit going down." You need to take a breather and spend some quieter moments with them, by going to places like the cinema or going to play golf. I found this to be a lot of fun, and the characterization I found was worth it for the most part, once you find everything, the three protags are easily more fleshed out than any character in the 3D GTAs. For example, I really enjoyed finding out about Franklin's depression through the weed smoking activity and making a connection between that and Franklin's interactions with the weed advocate Stranger.

Also, I didn't care about the underwhelming villains since to me, the main conflict in the story was always between the protags themselves, and the villains were just a sideshow, and were always loose ends to the protags, just look at how they're spoken about in The Third Way.

I did it because in the story, Franklin earned Trevor's trust and both saw each other as friends, and it's just not in me to betray a friend, no matter how much of a liability he is, and I figured that if I (Franklin) was going to go down, at least I would do it on my own terms, upholding my own ideals and those of my deeply flawed compatriots.
