despite what shitters say, a long highway to fight the wall of flesh is goat for multiple reasons
first of all, fireblooms grows on it if you're making it out of ash, giving you bonus plants, second in hardmode+ all the nasty lava slimes and hellbats are either under you or above you, assuming you're building a 5x5 highway to protect your feet and your head
and ultimately, it's a good way to prevent dolled demons to spawn it again if they get killed by your stuff by mistake

Basically make bosses that can't phase through walls 100% of the time and have some sort of capacity to destroy structures that is balanced and interesting. Give *some* of them some ridiculous gap-closers to punish people who try to flee/minecart their way out of every fight. Boom, better game.

Before there was expert mode, I challenged myself to to doing an armorless run. Got to plantera without defense. Really opened my eyes to how useless armor in general was at the time.

Magic is objectively the most fun, since you get all kinds of silly effects and weapons. Like shooting fucking rocks at the enemy, or summoning rain over them.
Melee becomes really spastic on hardmode, and ranged is just guns.

Honestly, with the Moon Lord, I used just run from almost beach to beach, hitting him as I went. Then I found in Expert I was going down quickly, even with post-gear and good potions and buffs, so I started just using a loop of Nurse to heal, Sun Armor for the dashing, Mechanical Minecart for some speed, and running away attacking until I reach the end of my tracks at the Jungle a while away. Then I cellphone it back home, heal if need be, rinse and repeat until he's dead.

The one thing I'm not sure how to legitly beat without cheating or using an arena / farm are the Pumpkin Moon and Christmas Invasion events.

The only acceptable situation is when you start a new world and bring it in with you, but what's the fun in doing that? "Ooh I can explore all over instead of being limited like a human and slowly upgrading my gear because of alien phenomena"
There's basically no reason to do another world aside from using it for farming materials / ore / goods that the world you're in can't get. Even if you restart a world and make a new character, throwing the Rod into the mix is just cheating it so hard.

Prehardmode isn't really even worth balancing, honestly. At least not in the current terraria environment.
with completely intended mechanics, you can skip a decent chunk of earlymode with fishing. This becomes all the easier if you get lucky about a merchant selling a sitting duck (it's not hard getting 35 gold anymore with those money portal things)

You could gear up in hellstone before eater of worlds if your really wanted.

I haven't used it in awhile but it was severely broken after it's big update. They even broke vanilla recipes. That's quite a good reason for its reputation.
All I can say about it pre-update is that its boss balance was garbage, it added too many (prehardmode) ghosting enemies, and too many useless drops. It was redundant with Thorium.

I remember back when hard mode was newish, and on the first night me and my friends ever beat the Wall, we got a full moon and absolutely fucking devastated by werewolves n sheeit.

They killed all our NPCs and we thought that was how hard the game would be every night so we had to build floating houses in the sky.

Just circle around her when she's shooting stuff at you, then when she changes to her other form, go UP. I made a hellevator of sorts so that I could go straight up or straight down, then used grappling hook/wings . Easy as pie, since she doesn't shoot shit at you anymore, you can freely travel in a straight line. Just raped her with crystal bullets.
