Dunkey is wrong for a problem he's circling around but seems to forget. The game might be fine on it's own, the problem it's it's no way for the franchise to move forward. This isn't the new or proper direction for the franchise. It's just some nostalgia trip to when it was still good.
Mario moved on, it moved forward. Sonic right now is going nowhere with this game, and that's the worrying part of it when you look at the big picture.

Honestly, as much as I love the Genesis Sonic games, people overstate how bad 3D Sonic games actually are.

Adventure 1 and 2 are flawed, but not utterly broken as some people would lead you to believe and they have enough positives to compensate the negatives. Heroes is okay, but could have been a lot better if its cool concepts were better handled.

Shadow the Hedgehog and '06 are undeniably shit games, I'm not defending those. But Unleashed was a great game that people only bashed because they went "FUCKING WEREHOG STAGES REEEEEEEE" when the night stages aren't even that bad. Also Dunkey ignored Colors and Generations, which is strange because he actually praised Generations back when it came out.

I was never a fan of Sonic, but it seems like nowadays people forgot that Sonic was a Platforming game.

It was marketed as a run fast game to show how much better the Genesis was then Nintendo, but that's not what it's about. You can run through a level after you become familiar with it, but not if you've never played the game. Now all people remember is that Sonic goes fast and Sega is to blame for that.
