It takes a lot of setup and has quite complicated rules to remember and lasts WAY longer than the box suggests.
I dont think its too bad though. A variant rule I recommend is to give yourself a starting gift like the game would. Cut down on the early game grind a bit.
Another mod I recommend is to cut down the loot pile. So easy to get things you can't equip yet, is a bit fillerish, or not suited to your class.
(They give you A LOT of loot cards)
In DS you SHOULD be able to beat low level mooks pretty easily unless you backtrack recklessly.
Easier to just play the game though. Thats what most people would criticise it for.
(The card game they are making now looks pretty fun though)

Steamforged is weak. Even a /v/ collab could produce a better board game or card game design for certain vidya games than these faggots.
