Are budget games dead?
I feel like we have nothing in between asset flips and AAA games.
I'm talking about budget games developed by actual game studious, but obvious made on limited time or resources.
They were otherwise just like a AAA game.
Not veiled at all Hellblade thread then?
>I feel like we have nothing in between asset flips and AAA games.

Dear Mr. Shill, please stop.
Uh... Terraria and Stardew valley don't ring a bell?

Indie shit.
>>387164185
"indie shit" is what OP is asking about, well indie devs and small studios.

Those kinda games pretty much died off after 7th gen. Kick starter will never be enough fund and create these kind of games.
Have you tried Hellblade yet, OP? That's a budget game.

No, he's wondering why big publishers don't make any AA games anymore.
i.e. THQ
Well, THQ went out of business, so there's your answer.
Despite having decent popularity, EDF is still a budget game series

If you want "Why"AA games being dead happened the answer is the way the economy is set up.
Somehow make risktaking less of well a risk by giving the US a first world healthcare system or restraining "MUH SHAREHOLDERS" type people on the board.

These are the types of games I'm looking for.

>Redneck Kentucky and the Next Generation Chickens
>made by some slavs

>>387164469
>budget series
>charges full price

>>387165010
Slavs also made those History Channel fps games.

OP should clarify that you don't mean explicitly indie studios, since you're definitely going to have people saying "BUT MINECRAFT/TERRARIA/etc."
Like most things in the world, the global recession ruined everything you love. Heightened financial risk has caused most games to either be AAA publisher shit or indie shit or lowest-common-denominator microtransaction shit. Anything in-between has been crushed out of existence due to limitations on time and budget.
The few good indie games out there tend to be supported exclusively by their studios for a long time before moving on to the next project, milking every last dollar they can. A steady stream of AA titles isn't financially viable in the long term anymore, not until we find some painless solutions to our real world economic problems.
