C&C embraced tank rushing. Any game before Generals is nothing but.
Starcraft community, on the other hand, went all "fuck no" and autistically devised a special kind of maps where you could fight back against it, banning all others.
And that's how they got their ramps and wall-ins.

C&C people were content getting the same thing over and over again. Blizzard people saw the mess that was WC2 MP and ended up fighting against it.

It wasn't just map design.
In SC every unit can be punished with its counter. You are forced to mix things up or as soon as you're scouted you lost the game if you only mass one 1 unit type.

In C&C tanks were the most powerful units and could only be countered with more tanks. That was the problem.

You just can't compete with crazy Soviets with crazy inventions and no concern for safety.
-Giant tesla coils and flamethrowers versus boring turrets or pillboxes
-Nukes instead of a teleporter.
-Guard dogs that can one-hit kill infantry units, even Tanya.
-Submarines and freakin MISSILE SUBMARINES
-The nuke truck (pic related)

All this was just in the first one, too. The coolness is apparent and only gets more so as the series goes on.

I would love a TS reboot where they keep the general game the same but update it to be more up to the modern era, like better controls, more faction asymmetry, no seeker-drone, better balance, red/yellow/blue-zone maps where there are mapwide effects based on the zone type (red has few garrisons, loads of tiberium, generally dangerous for infantry, different unit lines, yellow has less tiberium and more buildings, blue has a few small patches and loads of buildings, favoring infantry strats), stronger infrantry and different engineer mechanics

in C&C vehicles could crush infantry, which made even rocket infantry fair poorly against tanks, harvesters are tough and can also run over infantry. So the only way to deal with tanks is tanks. SC didnt have that issue and zerg rushes were also nerfed in patches (spawning pool for example was more expensive to prevent 6pool from raping you).

It's not like Starcraft is that big on diversity.
Remember that crafts are soft-counter games, C&C is all hard-counter based.
The standard Terran army is siege tanks and goliaths, vultures at the start.
It's not like there are no tanks in SC, they simply have shit that complements them far too well to pass out on. Old C&Cs didn't have that.

Personally I didn't like RA3 because it brought in micromanagement of unit with the secondary abilities. Fuck that, part of the fun of RA2 was conscript rushes without having to make sure they are all using the right weapons and wearing matching socks
