It is nice that they keep on updating the game. I am around 40 hours into the game and so far i have only good things to say about the port.

I like the game quite a bit so far however i think that i will try to slow down a bit so that i don't burn myself out. The pace can be a bit slow at times, sure a lot of it is world and character building but at times i find myself doing side missions that don't really add much to the game.

The turbo button is really a god send and i have a hard time seeing myself clearing those dungeons with all that trash mob without it.

The MILITARY school setting could work wonders to CS if properly executed, but the academy would have to be tough as nails with a badass MILITARY teachers without any of the happy go lucky high school setting we get in CS and the Noble vs Commoner feud would have to be WAY more intense, amidst your school days and training you could see or heard by radio the inevitability of war and how you and friends would probably fight and die, so the development would be they learning to deal with it, be it accepting or refusing to fight for the nobility mixed with their personal problems, that would add a lot to the story. personally, I think Cold Steel is two steps forward, two steps back. Combat in general is a lot more fun in Cold Steel, and the worldbuilding is better than ever. But I feel like the characters are a bit weaker, as is the orbment system. Rean is pretty cool but he feels a bit like Kevin but not as good. I feel like Class VII as a whole is cool but not all of them get enough development which I hope at least gets partially fixed in Sen 3. I also feel like waifu options were a mistake. I'll sperg out over Fie and Alfin any day of the week but I think for the best way to do the story there should have been only one heroine/romance and it should have been Emma. I also miss the Sora/Crossbell way of doing orbments. You had to put some real thought into your setups, especially for arts users. Cold Steel is more or less just a slightly better materia system.

Following those little subplots is what makes the world feel real and gets you invested. CS alone doesn't do it so well because you go between school and new city too quick not to mention the school itself is limiting but Sky and Crossbell had more variety so it felt nice. Loading a clear save and having NPCs recognizing you and quests being acknowledged in the second games also felt nice and contributed to the atmosphere. I think quote a few of people miss it when it's mostly gone from the 3rd for example. And besides even outside of these seemingly mundane things there's plenty of lore talk and important details. It just sucks that CS is the first game for many people and it's very mediocre especially on its own.

Kinda made moot with Rean's super sayan mode and linking, with that I turned my brain off in many boss fights for CS2, focused all my buffs on keeping Rean in his ogre form for as long as possible and link him with tanks like Laura, many boss fights can be done in just one turn.
