Why are pretty much all stealth franchises dead at this point? Are AAA games just so expensive to make nowadays that the stealth genre is not viable anymore since the games won't sell enough?
>>
Too much effort
>>
>>387155191
>3D perspective
>magic corner peek
>stealth

lmao
>>
>>387155346
Plenty of good stealth games act like you are invisible when you are in shadows which is magic as well. But it is fun so who cares.
>>
>>387155191
AAA games in general are too expensive to make. It's impossible for a niche game to be a financial success with how much it costs to develop.

Reminder that we will never see a well developed AAA RPG ever again.
>>
Because developers who make stealth games want to improve their combat mechanics and action game developers think they're adding new features by implementing a stealth mechanic, so they're all converging towards "play it your way" action stealth hybrid games now. It's feature creep.
>>
>>387155191
>best-selling game of 2017 is the latest instalment in a stealth series
Great opinions OP.

And it was always a relatively niche category, for obvious reasons, anyway.
>>
>>387155746
RPGs arent niche

Hitman 2016 is a great new stealth game.
>>
>>387156862
wildlands? Call wildlands whatever you want but it is clearly a different kind of game compared to splinter cell, thief etc.

Nobody buys stealth games anymore, even the good ones.
Styx 2 was excellent but bombed very hard regardless.
>>
>>387157240

>50k copies sold

Considering Focus Home Interactive is AA at most and the game got next to no advertising, that's not a bad take.

>>387157240
i wasn't blown away by the first styx despite the hype. Was the second one a big improvement?
>>
>>387157473
This is after sales and shit, nobody is going to bother developing a big quality title akin to Chaos Theory with such sales, you can only hope for pixelshit indie trash with such numbers.
>>
>>387157230
>mfw I google it and it's true

why would anyone buy wildlands
>>
>>387157240
Essentially this. Unfortunately there's not much of a playerbase left for them
>>
>>387157606
Yes, a huge improvement.
The levels are much bigger, traveral is pretty smooth without accidently doing shit you didn't intend (happend a lot in the first), better AI, more interactions with environment, secrets.
>>
>>387157652

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a 3rd Styx game, given that they didn't have to spend a fortune promoting the series.
>>
>>387157792
have they removed those glowing bugs?
>>
i genuinely think a splinter cell game would sell it they lowered expectations, it fell victim to the "everything has to get call of duty sales to be successful" fad that a lot of games seem to of.
>>
>>387157969
There are bugs which react to sound and are otherwise blind in some levels.
Also some flying ones.
>>
>>387158113
So you are telling me that they are more bugs in the game. Not really selling it to me. [spoiler It sounds like fun despite those bugs remaining in the game[/spoiler]
>>
>>387157240
>>387157652
>>387157743
Is there any real source for Styx bombing or is it just self-proclaimed experts who only use Steamspy?
>>
>>387158416
it did came out on console as well so it might have sold more on those.
>>
>>387156914
Good ones are
>>
>>387158292
They bring variety into the gameplay.

>>387158416
Steamspy is pretty accurate after a few weeks.
Also there has been silence from the studio ever since, probably working on that werewolf game.
No content updates or hints at possible sequel.
What else do you need?
>>
>>387158515
And Steamspy retards have no idea what the development expenses or the sales expectations were, they're just assuming that everything with less than 6 figures copies sold is a massive flop.

>>387158635
>Steamspy is pretty accurate after a few weeks.
So fucking what?
>What else do you need?
A real source.
>>
>>387158635
modern games look so wierd, it started with gta5.
>>
>>387158721
>A real source.

You will never hear a "we fucked up and our game bombed, we lost millions" from an official source.
It's either an article about sccessful sales or the IP getting iced.
>>
>>387159173
So then we don't know, stop pretending otherwise. You're taking one number and blindly believing that it's the ultimate truth without knowing any of the other factors.
>>
>>387159342
>So then we don't know

We know for certain since there has been absolute zero positive news.
>>
>>387155191
Stealth games are shit. Only turbo autists like this crap.
>>
>>387159425
>I assume since there has been absolute zero positive news.
Fixed.

wew
>>
>>387159746
I see it's pointless to try and convince you that Styx 2 was not a huge success story.
Fair enough if it helps you sleep at night.
>>
>>387159437
Yeah, bro I only like EPIC moments with totally BADASS gameplay
CoD for life bro! what kind of FAGGOT likes sneaking n shiiittt
PUSSIES PROBABLY
LOL
>>
>>387160142
I'm not saying it was a huge success, I'm saying you don't know that it was a flop. You're the one making assumptions, I'm admitting that I don't know how well it did.
>>
>>387160325
Making an educated guess is not "making assumptions".
It is considering what we know and what has not happened but should have and adding 2 and 2 together.
>>
>>387156336
This. Developers think that stealth is not too big of a mechanic to center the whole game around it. That's why we get lots of action titles with garbage tacked-on stealth.
>>
>>387160575
Calling yourself "educated" because you opened Steamspy is quite a stretch.
>>
>>387155191
Hitman 2016 didn't hit the top, but it didn't bombed, plus it's still selling and probably will keep selling given the amount of content and the stuff they keep releasing.... Also, season 2 coming soon
>>
>>387160893
Try reading a dictionary before posting next time.
>>
>>387155191
look at Splinter Cell for example, those greedy faggots at Ubisoft wanted it to sell COD numbers so they started changing the formula while adding all kinds of shit to make it appealing to casuals (guess what they failed)
>>
Just finished Thief Gold and I'm about to start Thief II. Which texture mod do you recommend, Thief 2 HD or Thief Enhancement Pack 2.0?
