I find the quake scene much harder to break into than the doom one. For doom you have the cacoawards and /vr/ and zdoom forums, plus the amount of normal gaming press doom mods and wads regularly get. For quake there's basically common knowledge of source ports and that's fucking it

You only need the id1 folder, you just put it in the root folder of your favored source port (I recommend Quakespasm).

Just get Quake 1 from the pirate bay. Never use the executable, just the copy the id1 folder to your sourceport
