people keep raving about morrowind and how good it is, is it an okay game to play in the modern age or has it aged like shit?

Casual.
>>
>>387146505
You use MGE XE for LODs.
Don't use MGSO as it is outdated and shitty.
Best graphical overhaul out there is guideanon's pastebin guide, but I'm currently waiting on a guy on Reddit to drop something he called Morrowind Restored (he basically resize all textures up to 2k with Waifu2x), because even with guideanon guide you have cashing art for texture as they are made by different authors.
>>
>>387144042
It's mainly the writing that is great, the gameplay is only good if you like tabletop rpgs
>>
>>387146505
It looks like MGE, part of Vivec Open Cantons (or whatever it's called now), and a slew of texture mods. It could have been one of the subpar overhaul packages though, it's hard to tell from this distance. Patrician choice is 200+ graphics mods hand-chosen for maximum authenticity and quality.

>is it an okay game to play in the modern age or has it aged like shit?
It was a mediocre game even on release. There are good, old games out there which can be said are dated, like the original System Shock which needs to be modded for proper mouselook, and there are also good old games which are not dated whatsoever, like Thief or Deus Ex.

Morrowind however is simply mediocre. It's a shining moment of brilliance from Bethesda, and they hadn't made any objectively good games since then, but it still has an absolutely abysmal control system and an open-world with the depth of a plank fucking board. I don't recommend it.

The NCR are spread too thin.
They cover as much land as possible, but each base or area is overworked and understaffed.
This leads to corruption in their ranks and a lot of supplies and communications being intercepted.
Making the floor look nice is the least of their concerns.
>>
>>387154050
>The NCR are spread too thin.
Fuck off, this is the nexus of NCR presence in the region, they can still give a boot a broom instead of making them do whatever banal bullshit they make them do as punishment.

"Kwama eggs are a rich, nutritious foodstuff with modest magical properties. Popular throughout the Empire, kwama eggs stay fresh for a long time, and kwama mining is a profitable industry on Vvardenfell."

"The mudcrab native to Vvardenfell is prized for its sweet crab meat. The flesh of the mudcrab is both tasty and possessed of modest magical properties."

"The sweet pulp of marshmerrow reeds is a delectable foodstuff, and when eaten fresh or prepared, it has modest healing properties. Marshmerrow is an important cash crop of the farms and plantations of the Ascadian Isles, but it also grows wild in the Grazelands and on Azura's Coast."

"Scuttle is Vvardenfell's favorite local dish. This cheese-like, greasy substance made from the flesh of local beetles is remarkably tasty, and has modest magical properties."

"Scribs are a larval form of the kwama. Crushed scribs produce a nutritious but sour-tasting gelatin with modest magical properties that the natives eat with gusto."

"Scribs cut into strips and dried in the sun are called scrib jerky. Scrib jerky has modest magical properties, and tastes scarcely worse when spoiled than when fresh, and are a practical foodstuff for the hardy native traveler."

"Rat meat is tough and greasy, with an unpleasant odor and taste. Nonetheless, it is cheap, abundant, and nutritious, and palatable when cooked in a stew and masked by strong strong spices."

It's not as needed, but still a good tool, especially for load order management (if you're not using mlox that is)
>>
Crab Meat and Scuttle

2 handfuls of scuttle
4 pinches of wickwheat
1 large kwama egg
the meat of one mudcrab (two portions)
1 handful of chopped bittergreen

Beat eggs, wickwheat, and scuttle in a large bowl. Slowly stir in crabmeat and bittergreen. Bake covered in a hot over [sic] for one half hour to one hour (when a knife comes out clean).
The Hound and Rat

1 pie crust
1 pound of ground meat (mixed rat and hound)
a hand and a half of cooked saltrice
1 handful of scuttle
1 small kwama egg
a pinch of ash salts

Cook the mixed meat in a pan over an open flame. When the meat begins to brown, add the saltrice. Stir for a few moments and add the scuttle and kwama egg. When the kwama egg is fully cooked and the scuttle has melted, pour from the pan into the pie crust. Sprinkle with ash salts and cover the pie crust. Bake for one quarter hour in a hot oven.

The controls can easily be mapped however you want them, the open-world it has is incredibly intricate and detailed especially for the time it was made, and the combat is a byproduct of the traditional RPG philosophy of the time that some people, myself included, actually like (Furthermore, you can't bitch about how it works mechanically if you're seriously going to stand there and say the way Deus Ex skills worked early game is any better.).

At the end of the day, you're just not patient enough to play it. That's all. It's a game primarily about exploration and discovery, but you find that boring and would prefer to just be guided through a theme park.

It's stupid that you have to have a high alchemy skill to get effects from food. Especially when all NPCs tell you to carry food to restore your fatigue.
I mean, according to some random Alchemy book I found in the game, you don't actually "eat" ingredients. You just chew part of them up, or grind it up against your gums, something like that. There should be an option to actually just EAT some bread or an egg, and you don't have to pray it reaches your stomach.

This is only a problem with NPCs that leave corpses that don't vanish. 90% of the NPC corpses will vanish. Vampires and enemies that leave ash piles on death will not have their bodies disappear. In these cases you just open up the console and target the corpse and type MarkforDelete. Next time you enter a new area (AKA loading screen), the object will be deleted permanently. Make sure you get everything off the body before leaving the area.

"Rumors" have also pointed to it being Alinor, Hammerfell, Elsweyr, and Black Marsh. Almost every single candle, torch, or light is an actual object set to cast light. In skyrim there are only 1-3 objects set to cast light. It's only until bloodmoon that Bethesda started doing retarded shit with objects not having any lighting. In vanilla morrowind they mostly used detached lights just for clusters of objects that look like they should light up.

Alternative start mods are a god send. Morrowind did the start perfectly. One silt strider ride away from major areas, a short dungeon with loot, a merchant that will give you cheap prices with scrolls and basic spells etc.

I hated Skyrim's main quest for that same reason. A fucking dragon comes out of nowhere and you are rushed to to Whirerun to tell the Jarl. Dragon Falls Barrow was a good place not to do shit but after that Skyrim railroads you harder. In Oblivion's main quest at least you were told to go to all the counts and do shit, giving you time. The quest where you go get some daedra artifact could have been good if Martin didn't point you right to one.
