All right so legit question, I've had my laptop for about 3 years now. Maybe a little longer now, and lately its fans have been running high and it's been hearing up a bit even when I'm running programs that aren't a heavy load. Is my computers life running out or do I just need to clean it? If I need a new one soon what's a good laptop to get that can handle Adobe programs and maya?

Yes, but you will quickly find out that there are some places where it's either inconveniet or just simply too time consuming to use cotton swabs, so compressed air is your #1 friend. While you at it you can check the thermal paste whether it's dry or not and maybe even change it. I suggest using cotton rounds to clean the thermal paste itself and then cleaning cloth with pure alcohol in order to wipe out the remaining residue.

Shame literally nothing except a few EA games support SLI. Better to sell those two 1080s and use a 1080 Ti. A single more powerful card will always be better for ingame performance. SLI is only useful if all you do is benchmark leaderboards.

That is also why the regular i7 is superior to the hexacore and 8 core processor. Superior single threaded performance. You don't need those extra PCIe lanes either if you're just running a single card. My CPU is at 5.15GHz for example. It runs circles around yours on in-game benchmarks 100% of the time. Even in heavily threaded games like Watch Dogs 2

>Shame you're a idiot that knows nothing about SLI. Troll harder jelly baby.
Sorry but I know more about computers than you fampai. Unless you're doing CUDA rendering which can actually scale to the second card properly you have a 500 dollar paperweight in the second PCIe slot.

The most you can gain is 20-30% framerate, which you could easily get with just the 1080Ti instead of SLi and it would work in more games and cost less.

Only Nvidia showcase games (Rise of Tomb Raider, Sniper Elite 4, For Honor, Crysis 3 & Metro Redux) benefit in any meaningful way. Granted those showcase games (which are insanely rare) do get a 60% bump in framreate they are an exception and not the rule. Generally speaking there is 0 performance benefit from 99.9% of titles. The few that get a post-launch profile see 10-20% at best in gain, which is still only as many games as you can count on your hands.

I'm sorry you fell for the meme. SLI support is in a worse place today than it was in 2012 when I last had dual cards. Back then at least there was a need with cutting edge engines pushing the envelope that needed more power than was available.

3440x1440 dude. At that resolution the 1080Ti can just push 60FPS at max settings in new titles.

As soon as the new ASUS ultrawide drops I'm upgrading to it. It is a 10-bit panel that is 200Hz and still 3440x1440. Ultrawide is too nice to give up for more framerate. I don't need niche products to gain a competitive edge. I stay on the top of leaderboards with what I have. It will be nice to have the option to run at a higher framerate though when it comes out this fall.

If it's a hard freeze with a screeching sound coming through your speakers check your sound drivers. It happened to me while playing certain video games (ds3, mwo, etc.) And it turns out that I had two sound drivers fighting over my speakers. Update the one that you don't disable.

Either that or your hard drive is fucked.

Consider fixing whatever you use to cool your CPU if the temp is above 85°c.

I was having a problem a while back where my CPU was at 90°c every time I'd turn it on.

Computer was slow as fuck.
Got a guy to come look at it and he told me that it was probably a faulty sensor.

He couldn't figure out what the fuck was wrong with it and recommended I buy a fan and a new GPU.

250$ later shit still wasn't working.

So I eventually started fucking with it myself and just took out my old CPU cooler, which was some sort of closed plug'n go liquid cooler, and I put it back in.

Surprise surprise shit worked fine.
This whole ordeal basically put me without a computer for almost 2 months.
At least I got a new GPU out of it I guess.
Moral of the story though is that computers can be finicky
