rome 2 and empire were pretty awful, from a mechnical/technical standpoint, but shogun1 was very basic and unsophisticated, reviewers even rated the game higher after a few patches because they tweaked so many mechanics that the game improved drastically.

Max Payne 1 for sure, and I always deeply preferred Spyro 1 to the later installments. 1 is just a really pure experience, and the charge boosting segments give it some of the best designed levels in a 3D platformer IMO.
