No, I agree. I like Mania's, but I can't place why it just doesn't compare to the CD intro or outro. It might be the added clumsiness to Sonic's movements, or maybe its that his Tails and Knuckles look significantly less practiced than Sonic, or maybe it is the "over-animated" shit people say that I have a hard time actually buying into. Maybe also because they're looser about being on model, or because the opening is almost entirely Sonic running and bouncing around in a weird void for no reason.

Look at the second season of Superjail for the animation done on the Warden, or look at the recent crossover Tom & Jerry films, or look at the Zelda CDi games and I. M. Meen. Or that one gif from an anime OVA where a topless nurse gets slapped to the floor and is supposed to get back up in dismay but spazzes out on the ground instead. There's a lot of extra, distracting embellishment of movement or outright jerky movement because of additional animation because of directors whose black-and-white philosophy of "more motion = more better" didn't account for things like timing or economical use of frames.

Obviously when timing and weight are used effectively the extra frames aren't perceived as a detriment to the entire sequence. Obviously "if it's good and put under control well then it's fine". People going "what's wrong with more animation" in response to "it's over-animated" always have the caveat that the animation has to be good in the first place.

FWIW I think most of the animation in the video is fine, but there are frames where characters are partially copypasted (heads and bodies kept in the same position while arms/eyes move, for example) for just long enough that it looks 'odd' compared to the rest of it all.
