Honestly who here doesn't have a love/hate relationship with ARMA ?
The good
>Insane replayability
>Insane sandbox possibilities
>Land air & sea combat to fullest potential
>Huge open worlds
>Massive variety of weapons (even more with mods), vehicles & equipment
>Amazing supermods that improve everything
The bad
>One of the worst game engines ever seen
>Terribly optimized
>While simulated aspects of small details is cool, its unnecessary from a game/performance standpoint
>Vanilla AI stupid as hell; they either don't see you at all presenting no challenge or the snipe you from 300m in 2 shots
>Though improved in recent years mission editing still takes a programmer to do anything cool or add features you'd expect in the base game
>vanilla AI don't work together; two units on patrol close to eachother, one group engages the enemy the other group will just keep walking non-chalantly like nothing happened
>takes 6 hours of modding, troubleshooting and bugfixing to make the game good
>garbage controls
I spent 10 hours making a mission so far that just includes a respawn in the base, and the ability to spawn any empty vehicle to use.
I fucking hate this game (but I love it).
If they remade ARMA on a completely new (i.e. not shit) engine and fixed all its worst aspects it would be GOTY
>>387118002
one of the best things about this game is making legendary outfits to use with your friends via the virtual arsenal. I love making shit stained somali characters wearing raggy clothes
>tfw 40 fps with a 4770k at 4.6ghz and a gtx 1080
love this engine honestly

The good thing about arma is that you can't kill it.
It's always going to hang around.Reply to this post and comfy operations will
come to you
>>387118560
The engine is ass but still it's the only shooter worth playing. It's a sandbox so you can just join whatever modding group that suits your niche.
>>387118560
There's just something about playing as rebels
and insurgents, this makes arma comfy.

I must admit though
Stomping all over FIA in t-shirts and technicals with a couple T-100s and a couple squads of OPFOR Commandos feels delicious. I mean, it's OP as fuck, it's not a fair fight, but it's like "Shock and Awe motherfucker!"
>Terribly optimized
Nice try. There's noting that comes even close
with scale and complexity.
>garbage controls
You bind it yourself. Make it non-garbage...
But I must admit, sometimes I feel like printing
out a controls page just because I forget all
the jets/heli controls...
But on the other hand, this does mean that
every role is special and takes time to master.
You can't jump in and become the best pilot...
I like the complexity, it adds depth, skill and
knowledge and past experience as require-
ment.
You will probably fail at flying if you a grunt.Join broma
Arma 2 was my shit, I played that for hours with friends, but without mods are the arma games are barely games, and the arma 3 dlc suck, lucky i bought the 100 buck edition i guess
How to snipe with ACE3:
Use the ATragMX (base on real ballistics calc)
https://ace3mod.com/wiki/feature/atragmx.html
This means that you need to actually learn how
to use an advanced tool.
Things like this make ArmA what it is...
If you don't like depth in games, just play BF4
It has bullet drop, but does not require hours
of experience before using snipers...
>>387118002
If we had DCS level aircraft so I could enjoy flying air support then I'd love arma
>>387121729
Arma aircraft are shit, having played proper flight sims for years now I can't get into flying seriously in arma just because the flight models and systems modelling is ass
There's nothing wrong with it being ass but let's not pretend that arma aircraft are difficult, it's the same as battlefield pretty much.
Arma 3: Advanced Flight Model

Pilots would have to train constantly to maintain
skill, they must also practice with different
helicopters, because they all have different
engines, quirks and features.
We need more complex games like this.
Fuck Ghost Recon Wildlands, where a
12 year old can fly a helicopter...
This is a real mans game.
>>387122726
I've tried the AFM friend. It's shit. Arma aircraft are trash.
Arma 3 offers a multiplayer opportunity that no other game on the market can offer
the game itself in its individual aspects is thoroughly shit, but there is nothing in the gaming world that is comparable to a good 40-50 man operation in arma 3 with the right modpack and the right people
>>387122197
>>387122415
>let's not pretend that arma aircraft are difficult
Prove me that you can actually land with AFM...
>>387122958
>Doesn't properly simulate systems
>No working glass cockpits
>No real weapon simulation
>No VRS in the helicopter FM
>No airframe stress damage

>>387122873
>but there is nothing in the gaming world that is comparable to a good 40-50 man operation in arma 3 with the right modpack and the right people
Pretty much. Arna 3 with the right mods and group is the best thing ever.
>>387122873
You get it...
No other game provides large scale battles
with 100s of AI, vehicles and players...
I still remember when squad said that increasing
the player limit by 10 would cause immense perf-
ormance loss. Meanwhile some insane russian
group is playing arma with 200 players.
>>387118002
I have a 185 hours in Arma 2 and all of that was fucking around in the editor at <20 fps. I could just never get into the actual sim part, but had a lot of fun fucking around and just shooting weapons.
I haven't played Arma 3 since release, but I was pretty disappointed with it back then in that it felt like there was a lack of weapons and vehicles. And if I recall, most of the armored vehicles seemed to share the same chassis or something.
>>387118002
How can I find military sim servers instead of king of the hill or roleplay ?
>>387123227
Whoabromasure is great...
>find comfy group with just the right amount of autism
>leave group because it's dying
>can't find any other comfy groups
>every other group is full of roleplayers and total spergs
Are there any close quarters simulation missions? Even for older ARMA games? I want a mission where you have to stop a mass shooter in some mall, or a school shooter. You would need to sneak in with your group of muhreens, avoid shooting kids, and take down the trenchoat mafia dead or alive.
>>387123457
>dying
You are not helping... just fix up your old group.
If you really like your group, do something to save it.
>>387123457

>>387124095
Call him out, see if others feel the same.
There's probably a reason he is like that.
Don't be passive agressive...be upfront and honest.
What's the worse that could happen?
You can always close the computer, you are safe.
What's the best that can happen?
It gets awkward, people get emotional, but
things will improve and your group will
once become a great nation again...
And all thanks to you!
>>387124252
Considering I left many months ago I'd argue it's too late for that, anon. Besides, I've noticed that fewer and fewer of the nice ones I have added playing Arma 3 lately, so I'd argue it's already over.
>>387124359
It's never over. Making your own group is hard,
it's far easier to salvage a old one...
If you don't want your old group to improve or come back, you don't have to do anyhting.
But by doing nothing you will never know what could have been again.

Arma 2/3 are the original flashpoint with more shit and better graphics, you can even download the flashpoint maps if you want
>>387125820
Arma 3 is the same shit but better
They released one of the original OF maps in HD for free recently.
Arma 3 would be the greatest milsim sandbox ever if the AI was better
The AI absolutely brings the whole game down
>>387126531
Yeah the magic sniper AI is sort of bullshit. You basically need to drastically lower its accuracy so it becomes fair. But then they become glorified hit markers.
>>387126531
You can get better AI mods
>>387126531
idk why but I actually prefer 2 over 3.
>>387123331
You need to look up a group.
Mil Sim servers ALL use mods so there isn't a easy to join vanilla server.

How to snipe in Arma, regardless of mod:
Use a range finder, use a semi automatic anything because bullet drop is a joke, enjoy free kills
In terms of actual gameplay apart from the horrid performance, controls, movement and general animation system the gunplay is some of the most shit of any modern shooter. The guns fire godrays but control like water pistols that never miss with zero recoil and no mod can ever fix it because the first shot is always perfect

>>387118117
I can get that on my i3930k & 670 @1440p and high settings, except on heavily modded (crap) servers, or with very high draw distance. Mentioning frames per second here is meaningless without resolution and draw distance.

>If they remade ARMA on a completely new (i.e. not shit) engine and fixed all its worst aspects it would be GOTY
I could totally see Arma actually working on a fucking CryEngine or even gamebryo.
Arma is typically the only series I can find where anywhere from 2-90 players will group up and listen, they will follow squad leaders, they will act according to Commanders and 5 star General's orders. They will never betray the man beside them and they will die fighting for the man next to them.
It's great.
