Too much focus on guns.
Vehicles were pointless.
Enemies were boring.
Stages were shit.
Bosses were monotonous.
Level objectives weren't fun.
Story was garbage.
Branching story was dumb.
Graphics were a clear downgrade from Dreamcast Sonic.

Now if they made a brand new engine that didn't feel like running on ice underwater it might have been good.

They brought aliens into the Sonic canon
Then they fired fucking everyone from SA 1 & 2 and replaced them with the shitty voice actors from Sonic X.
They brought back the chaotix again.
Then left it ambiguous as to whether the Shadow from Sonic Heroes onward is an android or a clone or the real deal.
They made the alien weapons too silly.
They kept Robotniks robots silly.
The large amount of endings was amazing to me when I played it.

this game actually isn't bad just for an occasional playthrough, with the branching paths. replaying it sucks tho by having to play the first level so much and try for special paths.
its honestly better than SA2 tho by virtue of not having 2/3rds throw away level. a bunch of adventure style levels with weird objectives is totally worth the time
