The first game doesn't have amazing writing, but it has an underlying current of dark humor that carries the entire package and makes it the best overall writing in the series, sans BorderTales.

Borderlands 2's writing takes a notable dive, though it usually doesn't get bad enough to get in the way of the rest of the game. Handsome Jack steals the show, and it's telling that he ad-libbed most of his lines instead of following his script and they rolled with it.

BLPS has writing so bad that it actively gets in the way of the enjoyment of the game.

It isnt as full of memes like you might expect, but Borderlands 2 goes for an obnoxious in your face tone which gets annoying real fast compared to the subdued tone of the original. With that said its still an enjoyable game that has a lot of content for the 5 bucks you can grab a copy for on console or PC, and for better or for worse is still the better examples of shoot/loot FPS games.

Been a few years since I played it, but it was pretty fun. Tiny Tina is your average 14 year old /b/ tard. Super cringey and awkward dialogue. She was my only gripe about the game, but I still had a lot of fun with it.

Have hope, Anthony Burch isn't working for Gearbox anymore, and he was the one who is most responsible for the shitty reference filled "writing."

The gameplay is largely unchanged with one major failure. They fucked up new game+ to the point where it is borderline unplayable. Enemy health scales way faster than player health/ weapon damage. Ordinary combat becomes a chore and bosses become MMO-tier slogfests as you slowly grind down the bosses in a war of attrition between your patience and their stupidly large health bars. That's what really ruined the game for me, hopefully they will have learned their lesson by the time BL3 comes out.

I'm gonna say no. Modding for bl2 is not trivial, and requires some hex editing. I think it scares off big changes like that. most of what ive seen is weapons changes and skins

Unless you can't stand ponies to the point that even a couple text references infuriates you, or a simularly super offensensitive thing that'd make you be better off just going into voluntary comittment rather than post on /v/, the memes aren't enough of a problem to impact one's enjoyment of the game.

Bad writing, dislike for the gunplay, dislike for the guns themselves, disinterest in the art style, you could find a lot of legit reasons to be annoyed with the game if any or all of them bother you, but memes ain't even close to the top. It's still fun despite any of those problems anyway.

I have litter interest in single player but I have a blast in co-op with Krieg since I'd constantly KO myself due to his perks but get up immediately, back down, up again, etc. He's a fun tank.
Gage is more fun than I thought she'd be too but I like every single vault hunter in this game.

Pre-sequel is ok but I didn't enjoy playing any of the characters with the exception of sometimes Athena and I didn't have the two bonus characters.

OP here, my favorite from 1 was Brick by far. I also hear this guy is the other melee character besides Zero. If I play 2 I'm thinking either the Mexican or Krieg since I like these type of characters in games.

Krieg is definitely "the" melee character, not the "other" melee character.

Zer0 technically has more melee options, but the way you have to build to make the most of it is so unfun, even the minmaxers quit doing it after Krieg was released.

Krieg is melee oriented and you can get a good melee build out of Zer0(more 'stealth' melee'). Salvador, not really.

My favorite co-op was me playing Krieg and my brothers playing either Zer0 or Axton. Krieg could use a bit of a nerf since usually the only time I'd go down is because I hit myself with the buzz axe and even then you can just get up with that suicide bomber perk. And then there's turning into a Badass Psycho.

I was considering Salvador more for the comedy and dual wielding actually. In general I just want a character I can like playing as and also one I find cool. Salvador always seemed like he had the funniest banter in the videos I seen of the game.

Salvadore has so many high damage gear and skill combinations that I think he can solo every raid boss at max level.
He just does so much damage that the enemy will die before you die.

Just a reminder to get the community patch if you plan on playing past the first playthrough, and while you're at it grab some mods. I hadn't touched the game in years but I find it fun again with increased drop rates and stronger weapons.

It is a fun RPG loot shooter with a story that doesn't really get in the way of the action. It also had some fun DLC and as I said earlier, I really ended up liking the Berserker. So much so that he pretty much is what I think of first whenever I think of Borderlands characters. Him Moxxy and that fat Mexican guy from the vending machines whose name I forgot.

after a few years of not playing, I recently started a new playthrough with a friend, and I gotta say I like how the guns feel. With a few exceptions, the guns feel satisfying to use, especially getting headshots with a Jakobs sniper rifle. Sure the missions are kinda weak, but the gameplay makes up for it. I wish the skill trees were a bit more varied, though. I thought I hated the game because I would hear so much negativity from all websites, which later made me rethink what I played through, but I've come to realize Borderlands 2 is actually a good game with a shitty script.
