I played the original to death so I got very little from REmake. I couldn't care less about better graphics. I still consider RE1 to be playable today so REmake was nothing more than a nostalgic trip for me.

Yeah, honestly one those games where you could tell the dev team poured their passion into the final product. Always conflicted between REMake or SH2 as the high point of survival horror.

Yeah REmake is really just a perfectly crafted game.
>Amazing pacing with no real down time
>Allows for non linearity and exploration during the middle
>Relies on player improv over scripted events
>Creative puzzles that aren't overly convoluted
>Lots of location variety
>Introduces new enemies as the game goes on to keep things fresh with all the backtracking
>Two unique characters to play through
>Incentivizes fast completions once you get familiar with the game
It's one of the few games where I don't think I could name any real flaws to speak of, one of the reasons I still keep my GameCube plugged in.

How do I not suck at REmake? I got to the first stash on the west upper side from the foyer after using up all my ammo just to kill two zombies in a hallway too thin for me to run past, but then going through the only remaining path to the east results in another hallway with too zombies that's too thin for me to run past, so I can't get through that without taking a hit. Is there some trick to getting past zombies without being grabbed that I'm supposed to know?

In case you don't already know there are knives and tasers you'll find around that will tank a hit for you as well as do some damage to the zombie other than that you really just need to move around them in a somewhat exaggerated fashion, the game is designed around tank controls and I can't really think of any areas where it's impossible to juke them.

If you're not playing on the GameCube then you could always just enable the option to use regular controls even though it breaks the game.

I know about the knives, but I only have one left at this point and since the zombies are at both ends of the hallway I end up knifing the first one and getting bitten by the second. I'm playing on PC but I'm sticking with tank controls since I know that's how it's meant to be played, I just haven't been able to figure out any way to get around them on my own.

I'm not really sure how to explain this but think of the game Snake where you can only move in straight lines, you want to move in this sort of shape ] where you go right real quick then straight then correct yourself and go back left.

I guess it's just something you have to get a feel for, you should feel progressively more comfortable with them. The first time I played REmake (first RE game) I couldn't get past the zombie in the room where you get the map because of how bad I was with the controls but now they're second nature to me.

What you do is:

- Walk towards a zombie (tapping forward works as well)
- Wait for zombie to perform grabbing/lunging animation (you can tell they're doing it by getting used to the walkcycles, etc)
- Hold backwards until it's clear the grab has missed
- Hold run and run straight at them and turn slightly so as to not get stuck on them
- You did it

Conversely, walk backwards towards a zombie in the same manner, but hold run+forward+left/right to circle past them.

Every aspect of the old games were designed around the fixed camera angles, where the developers could handpick the ideal positioning for obstacles, enemies and secrets.

Remove the fixed camera, and you'll get something like MGS Twin Snakes.

Its got a beyond tight window to do it and doesn't help that sometimes you think the zombie will do it but he just doesn't do it until you're too close to escape it anyway.

What helps is tapping towards them, away from them, over and over -- correcting how long you hold it as they slowly approach you without ever triggering the grab.

While REmake is the best Resident Evil game in the series

Both are 10/10s but I love RE4 more.

I'm one of the few who doesn't have a hateboner for 6, but 4's level design is just miles better.
6 is better as a sandbox brawler, a la' DMC4.

5 is ok, it certainly has more impact in how you hit enemies and it looks great, but it is so intertwined with the co-op shit, that it is hard not to drop the game after the hundredth time Sheeva steals green herbs from you or dies for dumbest reasons.

I don't split the game apart. If i had to chose I'd go back to 4 for the replayability. If I got to reexperience a game all over it would definitely be the REmake.

Over all, 6 was the best for Fluid controls and over the top fun, 4 brought strength to the series and REmake showed that old RE isn't dead, because every time it ships out with a slightly new coat of paint everyone buys it.
